Over its sixtyโfourโyear history, the Diocese of Imus has been shepherded by five bishops whose leadership has profoundly shaped its character and identity.
The Diocese began under the guidance of Most Rev. Artemio G. Casas, DD, its first Bishop and founding shepherd, who also served as Vicar Capitular of the Archdiocese of Manila before his later appointment as Archbishop of Jaro. He was succeeded by Most Rev. Felix P. Perez, DD, the second Bishop of Imus, who governed the Diocese for twentyโthree years and was the greatโgrandnephew of nationalist painter Fรฉlix Resurrecciรณn Hidalgo, as well as a relative of Fernando Canon, a revolutionary officer and classical guitarist; both were close friends of Dr. Josรฉ Protacio Rizal. The third Bishop, Most Rev. Manuel C. Sobreviรฑas, DD, continued the Dioceseโs pastoral and institutional development during a period marked by transition and growth. He was followed by His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, DD, the fourth Bishop of Imus, who became the first Caviteรฑo Bishop of Imus, the first Caviteรฑo Archbishop of Manila, and the first Caviteรฑo Cardinal to hold a cabinetโlevel position in the Vatican. At present, the Diocese is shepherded by Most Rev. Reynaldo G. Evangelista, DD, the fifth Bishop of Imus, who continues to lead the faithful in service, evangelization, and pastoral care.
