The final day of AFAA 2026 opened with a presentation entitled “Mental Health and Well-being in Educational Institutions: Implications for School Leadership” by Dr. Rose Marie Salazar-Clemeña. In her talk, she emphasized the importance of fostering safe and nurturing spaces for students, urging educators to prioritize school happiness by promoting well-being, engagement, and a strong sense of belonging. She highlighted that schools are not merely centers of learning, but vital spaces for holistic and sustainable community development that cultivate a lifelong love for learning.
Her engaging presentation was followed by the awarding of certificates to all participants.
The event culminated in a Solemn Eucharistic Mass presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA. In his homily, he reflected on the Augustinian virtues of "Caritas, Unitas, Veritas," emphasizing the importance of unity within educative communities. He reminded everyone that a fragmented educational community cannot form hopeful students.
Reflecting on the theme, he shared that “Charting pathways of hope requires united hearts. Educational leadership today demands collaboration among the whole community.” He further described the Augustinian educator as a builder of relationships, an artisan of community, a choreographer of oneness, and a champion of relational skills.
Quoting Pope Leo III, “Christian education is a collective endeavor; no one educates alone,” Fr. Batayola also spoke about the many challenges faced by today’s youth. He emphasized that students need not only information, but formation as educators who become signs of hope through patience, compassion, and the defense of human dignity over institutional prestige. Hope, he said, is charted whenever educators choose to accompany struggling students rather than label them.
The closing of AFAA 2026 brought together members of the Augustinian communities in a celebration of shared faith, knowledge, and passion for education. Through meaningful discussions among Augustinian friars and collaborators, the gathering fostered deeper connections and strengthened the spirit of communion.
Indeed, AFAA 2026 stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Province, showcasing unity of heart and mind, and a steadfast dedication to its mission and vocation.
