Joshua 4:1-7

In Romans 15:4 and the story of Joshua at the Jordan River, we are reminded to build a strong foundation of faith. Just as the priests stepped into the river and memorial stones were set up, we too must have monuments in our hearts so that in times of challenges we will not crumble. We are called to walk by faith and not by sight, finding our security in Christ who is our unshakable foundation.

These stones of remembrance symbolize Godโ€™s faithfulness in our lives; through answered prayers, testimonies, life-changing encounters, fulfilled promises, seasons of deliverance, healed wounds, provision, salvation, and protection. They not only remind us of His goodness but also testify to future generations that the Lord is faithful. Ultimately, Jesus is our greatest memorial, the eternal foundation of our faith, for to remember Christ is to remember that our hope is anchored in the One who never changes.

Jeremiah, the major prophet and son of Hilkiah the priest from Anathoth in Benjamin, reminds us through his writings in Jeremiah and Lamentations that God is the Potter and we are the clay. Isaiah 64:8 declares, โ€œWe are the clay, You are our Potter; we are all the work of Your hand.โ€ This calls us to reflect on how God shapes our lives.

Just as clay cannot resist the potterโ€™s hand, we too must learn to be humble and surrendered before God (Jeremiah 18:6; Psalms 25:9; Galatians 2:20). A yielded heart allows Him to mold us into vessels of honor, ready for His purpose.

Jeremiah 18:4 shows us that when the clay is spoiled, the Potter does not discard it; He patiently reshapes it. In the same way, Godโ€™s mercy and patience remind us that failure is not final. Proverbs 24:16 assures us that though the righteous may fall, they rise again. Our Potter never gives up, and so we must never give up while remaining in His hands.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are His workmanship, created for good works. Just as each pot has a unique design, we too have a distinct calling. Through the refining process: the glazing and firing. God strengthens us for His mission. And in Isaiah 41:10, He promises, โ€œFear not, for I am with you.โ€

Let us remember that we are clay, fragile yet full of potential, shaped by the loving hands of our Potter. If we yield, if we trust His reshaping, and if we embrace His purpose, we will become vessels that carry His glory to the world.

Pride before God

Pride before God is a subtle yet dangerous condition of the heart. James 4:6 reminds us that โ€œGod opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.โ€ Pride often hides in everyday attitudes; always needing to be right, craving recognition, looking down on others, refusing to apologize, or secretly comparing ourselves to others.

Just as King Nebuchadnezzar was humbled by God, we too will be brought low if we cling to pride. Pride seeks glory for self, but humility seeks glory for God (1 John 2:16). Whatever we achieve, we must lay it before Him, for it is the Lord who lifts us up in His time. God hates pride but honors humility (Proverbs 6:16-17).

True confidence is not pride; it is rooted in knowing who we are in Christ. When we spend time in Godโ€™s Word and prayer, our hearts are aligned with His will, and our eyes are fixed on the humility of Jesus, who is our perfect example. Let us choose humility, for in humbling ourselves before God, He will exalt us.

โ€œThou shall not steal.โ€

Stealing isnโ€™t just about money or property; itโ€™s taking what doesnโ€™t belong to us: time, ideas, credit, trust.

Why does God hate stealing?
1. It hurts others
2. It shows lack of trust in Him
3. Jesus teaches generosity
4. It violates Godโ€™s ownership
5. It destroys trust

One act of stealing can damage friendships, businesses, even churches. Once trust is broken, it can take years to rebuild.

Stealing comes in many forms:
โ€ข Taking physical property
โ€ข Dishonesty
โ€ข Corruption
โ€ข Stealing time
โ€ข Stealing credit
โ€ข Even stealing from God

The root? Greed, envy, and lack of trust in God. It begins in the heart before it becomes an action.

When we choose honesty, generosity, and trust in God, we build stronger relationships and honor Him. Letโ€™s live with integrity, respect others, and show the world that Christโ€™s love is greater than greed.
