The Church celebrates today Saint Joseph the Worker, honoring the dignity of labor and the sanctity of a life lived in quiet fidelity. In Joseph, we see the humble carpenter of Nazareth, entrusted with the care of Jesus and Mary—a man who worked not for recognition, but in obedience, love, and faith.

This hidden life of Saint Joseph finds a deep spiritual echo in Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, the Little Flower. Though she did not often write about him at length, her spirituality and vocation were deeply aligned with his. Like Joseph, Thérèse embraced the ordinary and the unseen. She found her path to holiness not in grand actions, but in the faithful offering of daily tasks, in silence and surrender to God’s will.

Both saints model for us the beauty of the “little way”—a path marked by simplicity, humility, and trust. Joseph labored in the workshop of Nazareth; Thérèse labored in the hidden cloister of Carmel. Yet both offered their lives completely to God, showing us that sanctity is possible in the most ordinary circumstances.

As we celebrate Saint Joseph the Worker, we are invited to bring new reverence to our own daily work—whatever form it takes. May we, like Thérèse, look to Joseph as a protector and guide in our labor and in our efforts to serve God in the small, quiet corners of life.

Saint Joseph the Worker, pray for us.
Saint Thérèse, teach us the beauty of a hidden life offered in love.

“My Savior, if you emptied yourself so that I could have divine life, did you not intend that I should be filled with it? Grant, then, dear Jesus, that I may empty myself of selfishness so that I may be filled with your selflessness; grant that I may empty myself of sin and be filled with your graces; and grant that I may empty myself of earthliness, and be filled with heavenliness. Strip from me the garments of worldliness, and clothe me in the white robe of my baptismal purity. Through poverty in earthly things, make me to become rich in spirit. Strengthen me so that I may welcome sacrifice and accept bodily suffering as my way of joining you in your passion. Amen.

ENOUGH OF WAR. IT IS TIME FOR PEACE | War divides. Hope unites. Arrogance tramples upon others. Love lifts up. Idolatry blinds us. The living God enlightens.

Enough with the idolatry of self and money. Enough of the display of power. Enough of war ... Echoing the incisive words of Pius XII, "Nothing is lost by peace. Everything may be lost in war."

We cry out, stop! It is time for peace. Sit at the table of dialogue and mediation, not at the table where armament is planned, and deadly actions are decided.

Prayer calls us to leave behind whatever violence remains in our hearts and minds. Let us turn to a kingdom of peace that is built up day by day in our homes, schools, neighborhoods, and civil and religious communities.

Let us believe, once again, in love, moderation, and good politics. Everyone has a place in the mosaic of peace.

Throughout the world, it is hoped that every community becomes a house of peace, where one learns how to diffuse hostility through dialogue, where justice is practiced, and forgiveness is cherished. Now, more than ever, we must show that peace is not a utopia.

Dear brothers, peace be with you all. As it is, it is the peace of the Risen Christ, the fruit of his sacrifice of love on the Cross.

For this reason, we raise our prayers to Him:

"Lord Jesus, you conquered death without weapons or violence. You shatter its power with strength and peace.

Grant us your peace, as you did to the women filled with doubt on Easter morning, as you did to the disciples who were hiding in fear.

Send forth your spirit, the breath that gives life and reconciles.

Inspire us to trust in Mary, your mother, who stood at the foot of your cross with a broken heart, firm in the faith that you would rise again.

May the madness of war cease, and the earth be cared for and cultivated by those who still know how to bring forth, protect, and love life. Hear us, Lord of life."
