Parish of Our Lady of Montserrat

Parish of Our Lady of Montserrat This is the OFFICIAL PAGE of OUR LADY OF MONTSERRAT PARISH - GRAN PLAINS The Child Jesus sits on His Mother's lap and also wears a crown and lovely garments. Fr.

The original image of Our Lady of Montserrat was carved in wood, the statue is in a sitting position and measures slightly over three feet in height. The right hand of the Virgin holds a sphere, while the other is extended in a graceful gesture. His right hand is raised in blessing; His left hand holds an object that resembles a large pine cone
Unlike many old statues which are black because of the kind of wood or the effects of the original paint, the dark color of Our Lady of Montserrat is attributed to the innumerable candles and lamps used in its veneration. Because of this dark color it is affectionately called La Moreneta, or The Dark Little One. Thus, the Virgin of Montserrat is classified among the Black Madonnas. The Virgin of Montserrat was declared the Patron Saint of the Diocese of Catalonia by Leo XIII. The statue has always been one of the most celebrated images in Spain. In Iloilo City, the statue of our Lady of Montserrat can be found in Gran Plains Subdivision, M.V. Hechanova Jaro, Iloilo City, thus the Church is called
The Our Lady of Montserrat Parish. The Parish was established in the year 1988 where Rev. Oscar Andrada was the first Parish Priest and followed by Rev. Santiago Silva. In the year 1994-2002, Rev. Msgr. Sinforoso Padilla, serves as the 3rd parish priest. In 2002-2009, Rev. Agapito Losaria became the 4th parish priest. In the year 2009-2017, Rev. Excel Jaen was installed as the 5th parish priest and in 2017 to present, Rev. Evaristo Ablona was assigned as the 6th parish priest. A historian wrote: "In all ages the sinful, the suffering, the sorrowful, have laid their woes at the feet of Our Lady of Montserrat, and none have ever gone away unheard or unaided." Our Lady of Montserrat, Pray for us.

Reflection
Bernard’s life in the Church was more active than we can imagine possible today. His efforts produced far-reaching results. But he knew that they would have availed little without the many hours of prayer and contemplation that brought him strength and heavenly direction. His life was characterized by a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. His sermons and books about Mary are still the standard of Marian theology.

The Assumption of Mary is a Christian belief that the Virgin Mary was taken body and soul into heaven at the end of her life. It is celebrated as a major feast day on August 15 and was officially defined as a dogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950.

Meaning and Belief
Body and Soul: The teaching states that Mary did not experience physical decay, but was brought directly into heavenly glory with both her body and soul.

Not an Ascension:
Unlike Jesus, who went to heaven by his own divine power (an ascension), Mary was taken up by the grace and power of God (an assumption).

Sign of Hope:
Christians view this event as a promise and preview of the future resurrection promised to all who follow Christ.

Celebration and History

Feast Date:
Celebrated annually on August 15 as a Holy Day of Obligation in many parts of the world.

Ancient Tradition:
While formally declared a dogma recently, early Christian writings and traditions celebrating her passing or "Dormition" (falling asleep) date back to the early centuries of the Church.

Global Observance:
Also observed by Eastern Orthodox Christians (as the Dormition) and some Anglican and Lutheran communities.

Prayer to St Clare of Asisi

O glorious Saint Clare!

God has given you the power of working miracles continually, and the favor of answering the prayers of those who invoke your assistance in misfortune, anxiety, and distress; we beseech you, obtain for us from Jesus, through Mary, His Blessed Mother, what we beg of you so fervently and hopefully, if it be for the greater honor and glory of God and for the good of our souls.

O Blessed Saint Clare, your life shines like a beacon and cast its light down the ages of the Church to guide the way of Christ.

Look with compassion on the poor and humble who call on you for help. As you bow before your Eucharistic Lord in Heaven, speak to Him of my afflicted body and my broken spirit. Ask Him to heal me and to wash away my sins in His precious Blood.

Great Servant of Christ, remember the needs of my family and all those I pray for. Defend us from everything that would threaten our Holy Catholic faith.

Hear the cry of the poor and make it a song of intercession, rising from your poor heart to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, our Healer, our Savior, and our Lord. Amen.

Saint Clare Pray For Us
Amen.

Prayer to St Lawrence - Deacon and Martyr

O Generous patron of the Church’s poor, St. Lawrence, pray to the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that all the poor of the Church in need in every corner of the world may feel the effect of the love of their brothers and sisters who seek to help them.

Deliver the Church from the greed and envy of the powerful and protect her rights and property so that she may serve the needy in freedom, giving them good things for soul and body.

May we come some day with all those whom we helped on earth to the bright mansions of heaven where we will enjoy the riches of God’s house and the company of the Saviour who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an event in the New Testament where Jesus is transformed and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain, witnessed by the apostles Peter, James, and John, alongside the Old Testament figures Moses and Elijah.

Gospel
Matthew 17:1-9
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

Prayer by Saint John Vianney
My Jesus, we can only be satisfied by setting our hearts, imperfect as they are, on you. We are
made to love you; you created us as your lovers. It sometimes happens that the more we know
a neighbor, the less we love him. But with you it is quite the opposite. The more we know you,
the more we love you. Knowledge of you kindles such a fire in our souls that we have no energy
left for worldly desires. My Jesus, how good it is to love you. Let me be like your disciples on
Mount Tabor, seeing nothing else but you. Let us be like two bosom friends, neither of whom
can ever bear to offend the other. Amen.

Happy Priest Day!
