JUST IN: The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has appointed Most Rev. Midyphil B. Billones, D.D., Metropolitan Archbishop of Jaro, as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Kabankalan.

The appointment, made public today through CBCP News, was announced in a letter from the Dicastery for Bishops dated August 11, 2026, and released this Friday.

As Metropolitan Archbishop and Apostolic Administrator, Archbishop Billones will shepherd the Diocese of Kabankalan—one of the suffragan dioceses of the Archdiocese of Jaro—in a "caretaker capacity" until the Holy Father appoints and installs a new bishop.

We accompany Archbishop Billones with our prayers and support as he tends to the wider flock entrusted to his care. Likewise, we lift up the Local Church of Kabankalan in prayer, that the Lord may soon grant them a new shepherd who will minister and journey with them after the Heart of Jesus.

Archbishop Midyphil Billones, Archbishop-emeritus Jose Romeo Lazo, together with the clergy, consecrated men and women, and lay faithful of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Jaro, joyfully extend their fervent prayers and heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Most Rev. Louie Galbines, on his canonical installation as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod.

In communion with the People of God in Bacolod, we rejoice in the gift of their new shepherd and accompany them with prayerful support as they begin a new chapter in the life of their Local Church. With deep gratitude, we also thank the Lord for Bishop-emeritus Patricio Buzon, whose faithful leadership and pastoral care have guided the Diocese of Bacolod with dedication and love.

Our prayers also accompany the Diocese of Kabankalan as they wait in hope and trust in the Lord for the gift of a new shepherd—one who will lovingly guide and walk with them in keeping the faith in Jesus Christ firmly rooted in the hearts of His flock.

May the Lord abundantly bless Bishop Louie, together with the clergy, consecrated persons, and the entire Diocese of Bacolod, as they journey forward in faith.
