January 9 | Feast of the Black Nazarene

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we come to you to help us. Life is a constant struggle, and we now feel the pain of our journey. Bless us Jesus and teach us to listen, to all the events of or life, knowing that nothing happens by chance. Everything that happens has a reason. When we feel the pain of sickness, teach us to cope with loving surrender and to believe in the power of healing. When we experience emotional, financial and psychological brokenness, help us to rise up with belief that with God, nothing is impossible. We come to you today, to pray for healing to listen to our petitions ( say petitions…)

We pray to you and our mother Mary to answer our prayers. Amen

Black Nazarene we put our trust in you!

Good evening!

In Christianity, the anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ during Advent is significant. It represents hope, commemorates the Incarnation, and incorporates cultural and Advent practices. This period of waiting is the liturgical year's culmination, expressing faith in God's promises and celebrating the arrival of Jesus Christ as the Savior.

Please be guided by this year's Simbang Gabi and Misa de Gallo Schedule:

SIMBANG GABI (DECEMBER 15-23, 2023 | 6:00 PM)

MISA DE GALLO (DECEMBER 16-24, 2023 | 4:00 AM)

We would like to remind everybody to wear decent attire when attending mass and to practice proper behavior.

May we have a meaningful celebration of Advent and this Christmas Season. :)

Advent, a time to prepare for the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, is the first season of the liturgical year. We look forward to Christ's second coming, the Day of Judgment, throughout this season in addition to His first coming in the manger.

Let us know more about the symbolism and the apparent "names" of the four candles of Advent which we will light one by one every Sunday of Advent in anticipation of our joy for the Birth of Christ!

"Tuwirin mga landas, mga alitan ay tapusin, sapagkat si Kristo'y darating!"

Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

What a stupendous thing it was for the King of the ages to become King of men!
For Christ did not become King of Israel to exact tribute, to equip armies with swords, nor subdue visible foes. He became King of Israel that he might rule over men’s souls, counsel them about eternity, that he might lead to the kingdom of heaven those who would believe in him, hope in him, and love him.

Accordingly, it was not to increase his power, but condescension on his part that made him – the Son of God, co-equal with the Father, the Word by whom all things were made – wish to become King of Israel. It was an indication of his mercy; it did not augment his power. He who on earth was called King of the Jews, in heaven is called Lord of the angels.

But is Christ King of the Jews only, and not King of the Gentiles, too?
Yes, he is King of the Gentiles, too. When in prophecy he said, “But I have established my kingdom upon Sion, my holy mountain. I will proclaim the decree of the Lord,”
he added immediately so that the mention of Mount Sion might not lead men to believe he had been anointed King of the Jews solely:

“You are my Son; this day I have begotten you. Ask of me and I will give you the nations for an inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession.” Jesus answered: “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my followers would have fought that I might not be delivered to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”

This is what the good Master wished us to know.
First we had to learn how vain was the notion of this kingdom which had been current among all men, both Jews and Gentiles, and which Pilate had heard from them. As if he deserved to be condemned to death because he had aspired to an unlawful kingdom; or because reigning monarchs are apt to be jealous of those who are likely to rule in their stead, or as if, for example, there was need to beware lest his kingdom should be hostile either to the Romans or the Jews.

When the Roman governor asked Jesus, “Are you king of the Jews,” the Lord could have answered: “My kingdom is not of this world.” But Christ asked in his turn, “Do you say this of yourself, or have others told you of me?” because he wished to show from Pilate’s answer that he, Jesus, had been charged with this as a crime before Pilate by the Jews.

Thus he laid bare to us the thoughts of men which he knew and which were vain.
After the reply of Pilate, Jesus replied to them, to both Jews and Gentiles, more fittingly and more opportunely, “My kingdom is not of this world.” - Saint Augustine of Hippo, homily on the Solemnity of Christ the King.
