When we fail, make wrong choices, or drift away from God, His first desire is not to push us away but to bring us back to Him. God sees our mistakes, but He also sees our pain, struggles, and need for His grace.
This is what we see in Matthew 9:36. When Jesus looked at the people, He was filled with compassion because they were like sheep without a shepherd. He did not see them as hopeless sinners; He saw people who needed love, guidance, and salvation.
The same is true in Luke 15. When the lost son returned home after making many mistakes, his father did not greet him with anger. Instead, he ran to him, embraced him, and welcomed him back. That is a picture of God's mercy toward us.
God's mercy is not permission to keep sinning. Rather, it is His loving invitation to repent, return, and be restored. Before God corrects us, He reaches out to us with compassion. Before He disciplines, He shows mercy. That is the heart of our Heavenly Father.
