Today, Holy Mother Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi, the great solemnity dedicated to the Most Holy Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. This feast is a public profession of the Church's unwavering faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
Instituted in the thirteenth century and enriched by centuries of Catholic devotion, Corpus Christi stands as a powerful reminder that Our Lord remains with His Church, truly present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, under the appearances of bread and wine. Through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the faithful are given the privilege of receiving Christ Himself in Holy Communion.
Traditionally, this feast is marked by Eucharistic processions, acts of adoration, and prayers of thanksgiving. As the Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession, the faithful publicly honor Christ the King and bear witness to His presence in the midst of His people.
In the traditional liturgical calendar, Corpus Christi follows the celebration of the Most Holy Trinity and directs our attention to the central mystery of Catholic worship: the Holy Eucharist. It reminds us that the Mass is the heart of Christian life and that all grace flows from Our Eucharistic Lord.
As we celebrate this sacred feast, let us renew our devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, approach the altar with greater reverence, and spend time in prayer before Our Lord truly present in the tabernacle.
"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him." — John 6:56
