Prayer to Saint Jude for Strength While Waiting for Answers

Saint Jude, companion in perseverance,
I struggle with waiting, with uncertainty, and with unanswered prayers. Some days my faith feels strong; other days it feels fragile. I ask you to intercede for me during this season of waiting.

Ask God to give me endurance, peace, and trust in His timing. Help me not to lose heart or hope. Remind me that God is working even when I cannot see it. Strengthen my faith until answers come.
Amen.

O Saint Jude Thaddeus, relative of Jesus Christ, glorious apostle and martyr, renowned for your virtues and miracles, faithful and prompt intercessor of all who honor you and trust in You! You are a powerful patron and helper in grievous afflictions. I come to you and entreat you from the depths of my heart; come to my aid with Your powerful intercession, for you have received from God the privilege to assist with Your manifest help, those who almost despair of all hope. Look down upon me; my life is a life of crosses, my days are days of tribulation and my heart is an ocean of bitterness. All my paths are strewn with thorns and scarcely one moment passes but are witnesses of my tears and sighs; uneasiness, discouragement, mistrust and almost despair prey upon my soul. You cannot forsake me in this sad plight. I will not depart from you until you have heard me. Oh hasten to my aid, I will be grateful to you all my life. I will honor you as my special patron. I will thank God for the graces bestowed upon you and will encourage devotion to you according to my power. Amen.

Saint Jude Thaddeus reminds us that even in life’s most difficult moments, hope should never be lost. Known as the patron saint of impossible causes, he inspires us to remain faithful when situations seem uncertain and when answers do not come easily. His life teaches us that God continues to work quietly through every struggle, pain, and waiting season. In times of fear and discouragement, Saint Jude encourages us to hold on to prayer and to trust that God’s mercy is greater than our worries. He shows us that faith is strongest when we continue believing despite challenges. Through patience, perseverance, and sincere trust in God, we learn to move forward with courage. Like Saint Jude, may we become people who carry hope, strengthen others, and remain faithful in every trial we face.

O glorious St. Jude Thaddeus,
faithful servant and friend of Jesus,
the Church honors and invokes you universally
as the patron of difficult and desperate cases.

Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone.
Intercede with God for me
that He may bring visible and speedy help
where help is almost despaired.

Come to my assistance in this great need,
that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven
in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings,
particularly (mention your intention).

May I praise God with you
and all the saints forever.

Pray for me who am so miserable; make use, I implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded thee of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (mention your request), and that I may bless God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity. 📜 NOTE: St. Jude was one of the twelve Apostles. Mark’s (3:18) and Matthew’s (10:3) gospels refer to him as Thaddeus (a surname meaning “amiable or “loving”), possibly in part to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot, our Lord’s betrayer! John’s gospel refers to him in the last supper as “Judas… not the Iscariot” (14:22).
The prayer above touches on that: The evangelist no doubt wanted to make sure that he would not be confused with the man Jesus Himself referred to as the “son of perdition” in John 17:11!

St. Jude is usually depicted wearing green, as the color symbolizes hope.

The flame associated with him represents Pentecost and the tongues of fire that rested on the apostles’ heads, filling them with the Holy Spirit.

The image of Jesus that St. Jude holds is not a medal (as is commonly seen on his statues) but the Mandylion—a cloth bearing Jesus’ likeness.

The depiction here shows St. Jude presenting the Mandylion to King Abgar of Edessa. The king suffered from leprosy and had heard of Jesus’ healing miracles, so he sent messengers to ask if Jesus would come and heal him. Jesus replied that he would send his image through one of his apostles. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, St. Jude arrived with the Mandylion, and the king was healed instantly.

St. Jude is also known as the saint of impossible cases—perhaps everyone’s patron saint, as most of us face situations that feel “impossible.”

Devotion to him was relatively unknown until Jesus spoke of it to St. Bridget of Sweden: “In accordance with his surname, Thaddeus—the amiable or loving one—he will show himself most willing to give help.”

And my favorite moment: At the Last Supper, Jude turned to Jesus and asked (and God bless him for asking—his question and the answer deserve to be inscribed in gold!):

“Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?”
Jesus replied: “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him. We will come to him and make our home with him.”
