Sa discipleship journey, magkaiba ang mentoring at coaching, pero kailangan silang parehong gamitin. Hindi sila competitorsโmagkaibang stage at function sila sa development ng disciple.
MENTORING vs. COACHING IN DISCIPLESHIP
1. MENTORING โ โLEARN FROM ME.โ
Ang mentor ay isang taong may experience na nais mong matutunan ng disciple.
Hindi lang siya nagtuturo ng information. Ipinapasa niya ang:
* Biblical principles
* Wisdom
* Character
* Values
* Ministry experience
* Lessons from failures and successes
* Spiritual disciplines
Mentoring is primarily about TRANSFER.
โI have walked this road before.
Let me help you walk it wisely.โ
Halimbawa:
May bagong disciple na nahihirapang mag-pray.
Sa mentoring, sasabihin mo:
โGanito ako nagsimula sa prayer. Ito ang mga practices na nakatulong sa akin. Ganito ang pattern na pwede mong sundan.โ
You give him a model.
2. COACHING โ โLETโS HELP YOU DO IT.โ
Kapag naituro mo na, hindi ibig sabihin na marunong na siyang gawin.
Knowledge does not automatically become capability.
Dito pumapasok ang coaching.
Ang coach ay hindi laging nagbibigay ng sagot.
Tinutulungan niyang ang disciple na:
* Mag-isip
* Mag-decide
* Mag-practice
* Mag-solve ng problems
* Mag-evaluate
* Mag-improve
* Mag-take ng responsibility
Coaching is primarily about DEVELOPMENT.
Halimbawa:
Natutunan na ng disciple ang tungkol sa prayer.
Sa coaching, hindi mo na siya tuturuan ulit ng prayer.
Tatanungin mo:
โKumusta ang prayer life mo this week?โ
โAno ang naging struggle mo?โ
โAno ang nakapagpahina sa consistency mo?โ
โAno ang gagawin mo differently next week?โ
You help him develop his own spiritual discipline.
3. MENTORING GIVES ANSWERS.
COACHING DEVELOPS QUESTIONS.
Mentor:
โIto ang gawin mo.โ
Coach:
โAno sa tingin mo ang dapat mong gawin?โ
Bakit?
Because eventually, hindi ka pwedeng nasa tabi niya sa bawat decision.
Kung lahat ng sagot ay manggagaling sa mentor,
magiging dependent ang disciple.
Pero kung natuto siyang mag-isip biblically at gumawa ng wise decisions,
nagiging mature siya.
4. MENTORING IS MODELING.
COACHING IS PRACTICE.
Sa mentoring:
โWatch me.โ
Sa coaching:
โNow you try.โ
Halimbawa sa evangelism:
Mentoring:
Isasama mo siya habang nag-e-evangelize ka.
Coaching:
Next time, siya naman ang mag-share habang kasama ka.
Pagkatapos:
โAno ang napansin mo?โ
โSaan ka nahirapan?โ
โAno ang pwede mong improve?โ
Hindi mo lang siya pinapanood.
Pinapractice mo siya.
5. MENTORING BUILDS WISDOM.
COACHING BUILDS COMPETENCE.
Ito ang malaking distinction.
Pwedeng sabihin ng disciple:
โAlam ko na po.โ
Pero ang tanong:
โKaya mo na bang gawin?โ
Because there is a difference between:
Knowing โ Doing
at
Doing โ Doing Well
Mentoring helps with knowing.
Coaching helps move the disciple toward doing well.
6. MENTORING CAN BE DIRECTIVE.
COACHING IS MORE DISCOVERY-BASED.
Mentor:
โI recommend that you do this becauseโฆโ
Coach:
โWhat do you think is the best next step?โ
Hindi ibig sabihin na never nagbibigay ng advice ang coach.
Nagbibigay pa rin siya kapag kailangan.
Pero ang goal ay hindi maging decision-maker ng disciple.
Ang goal ay tulungan siyang matutong gumawa ng decisions.
7. MENTORING ANSWERS โWHAT?โ AND โWHY?โ
What should I learn?
Why does this matter?
Samantalang coaching often asks:
How will you apply it?
What will you do next?
What did you learn?
Kaya sa discipleship:
Mentoring gives the foundation.
Coaching turns the foundation into practice.
8. MENTORING โ COACHING โ RELEASE
Ito ang magandang progression sa discipleship journey:
STAGE 1 โ MENTOR
โWatch me.โ
I teach you.
I model it for you.
I explain the why.
STAGE 2 โ COACH
โNow you try.โ
You do it.
I observe.
I ask questions.
I give feedback.
You improve.
STAGE 3 โ RELEASE
โNow you lead.โ
You take responsibility.
You make decisions.
You serve independently.
STAGE 4 โ MULTIPLY
โNow help someone else.โ
You mentor someone.
You coach someone.
You develop another disciple.
THE REAL GOAL OF DISCIPLESHIP
Hindi:
โGawin mong katulad ko.โ
Kundi:
โMatutunan mong sundin si Jesus, hanggang kaya mo nang tulungan ang iba na sumunod din sa Kanya.โ
Kaya ang discipleship journey ay dapat may movement:
RECEIVE โ PRACTICE โ DEVELOP โ LEAD โ MULTIPLY
At dito napakahalaga ng coaching.
Without mentoring, the disciple may lack wisdom.
Without coaching, the disciple may lack capability.
Without release, the disciple may lack ownership.
Without multiplication, the discipleship journey stops with him.
One powerful way to remember it:
MENTORING: โLearn from me.โ
COACHING: โLet me help you grow.โ
RELEASING: โNow you do it.โ
MULTIPLICATION: โNow help someone else do it.โ
Hindi complete ang discipleship kapag natuto lang siya.
Complete ang discipleship kapag ang natutunan niya ay naging buhay, naging practice, naging ministryโand eventually, naging multiplication.
