“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19
Ash Wednesday gently invites us into the season of Lent with a simple yet powerful reminder: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” These words are not meant to frighten us, but to awaken us—to call us back to what truly matters.
In the silence of this day,
we are asked to pause and look honestly at our lives. Where have we grown distant from God? Where have we allowed pride, anger, selfishness, or indifference to take root in our hearts? The ashes on our foreheads are not signs of defeat, but signs of humility and hope. They remind us that although we are fragile, we are deeply loved.
The prophet in Book of Joel calls us to: “Return to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.” This return is not about outward appearances alone, but about an inner transformation. Lent is not simply about giving something up—it is about giving ourselves back to God.
Likewise, in Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us to pray, fast, and give alms in secret, not for praise, but for love. These practices shape our hearts, helping us grow in sincerity and compassion.
As we begin Lent in 2026, may we carry the ashes not just on our foreheads, but in our spirits—reminding us to live simply, love deeply, forgive generously, and walk humbly with God. May this season be a journey of healing, renewal, and quiet transformation.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, as we begin this Lenten journey, cleanse our hearts, renew our minds, and lead us closer to You. Teach us to let go of what weighs us down and to embrace the life You desire for us. Amen.
