“𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯 . . .” – 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 17:26

An impromptu prayer—to listen to what God would tell me about a concern that arose during my practicum in spiritual direction—affirmed what I had always known: that I am God’s pen in this life.

It had always inspired me to listen to people’s stories of how God transformed them, led them to the path He had planned for them, and used them to harvest more people for Him. For two decades, it had been my work to write of such stories.

Now that I am retired, the seed for a book—which God planted in my heart many years ago during a vocation search-in weekend—follows the same pattern: telling stories of God’s love for His people. I’m still working on it, and I pray that through it, many will get to know Him and not be afraid or hesitate to commit themselves to Him.

My faith demands I speak out against injustice, yet fear often silences me. Social media, with its potential for backlash, can feel like a minefield. It’s easier to remain silent to avoid the discomfort of confrontation.

But silence, I’ve come to realize from my Social Justice and Advocacy class, is not neutral. It’s complicity. It allows suffering to continue, betraying the very core of my Christian faith. This realization is unsettling but also a call to action.

The Gospel calls me to be a voice for the voiceless, to stand up for justice, even when it’s difficult. It requires courage, humility, and a willingness to step outside my comfort zone.

This journey is challenging, with setbacks and disappointments. But with God’s grace, I will strive to break the silence, to live out my faith authentically, and be a true witness to Christ’s love and justice.

“𝘐 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.” – 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 17:9

A cartoonist depicted a church scene with the priest falling asleep with his own sermon, while the pews were filled with blocks of ice (symbolizing how the church people have grown cold in their worship and love of God). His solution was to bring wrestling superstars to march with the priest during the entrance procession, complete with World Wrestling Entertainment fireworks, while the church choir sings to heavy metal music.

Oh, if only we know the truth. Do you know that during the Mass, Jesus is the real Presider? That’s why strict liturgists would never call the priest “the presider.” Through Jesus, and by the power of His Holy Spirit, God delivers the grace He promised. Again, liturgists don’t call the priest as “the celebrant.” Because we, God’s children participating in the Mass, are also co-celebrants, celebrating these gifts. Genuine worship is our response to this great mystery.

No lively sermons, no good sound system, no beautiful music? No problem! Jesus prays for us in the liturgy. Grace is undiminished for us and our family, the Body of Christ.

My son is in a season of curiosity, eager to explore everything around him. He wants to touch, play, try, and even taste whatever catches his interest. As a parent, I want to nurture his sense of wonder and let him learn through experience. But I also believe the world needs disciplined men. While I encourage his exploration, there are moments when I must step in, guide, and discipline him.

One day, I caught him trying to plug the electric fan into the socket. I immediately stopped him, scolded him, and reminded him that only Daddy and Mommy should handle it for now. Setting rules isn’t about limiting him but protecting him from harm. I see discipline as an expression of love—being present, guiding, and ensuring his well-being.

I believe God parents us the same way. He disciplines us not to restrict our freedom but to protect us from making harmful choices. He cares deeply for us, setting boundaries for our good.

I had the rare opportunity to teach homiletics to a class of seminarians and priests. I told them that if they’d have a takeaway from my lecture, I hope it would be to use stories in their homilies.

The reason I fell in love with the Lord and His Word was because I attended a prayer meeting where Scripture was explained in a way that I—then a 14-year-old who only wanted to go to parties and get to know boys—understood. Scripture stopped being a textbook I studied in my Religion subject and became a life manual that spoke God’s personal message to me every day.

The truth is, facts don’t change people. If they did, nobody would smoke ci******es given the gruesome warnings on its boxes. But stories smuggle in even truths too complex or painful for lay people. That’s why Jesus used parables to explain abstract concepts like God’s Kingdom and the Father’s mercy.

Wanna share Jesus with others? No need to learn homiletics. Just tell them your story.

There are three levels of happiness: Fun. Happiness. Joy. Fun is dependent on the moment. It’s what you experience when you feel the sudden rush of dopamine, like riding a roller coaster or taking a bite of your

favorite dessert. Happiness is a little deeper. It is dependent on the situation. You feel it when you get a pay raise, enjoy a beach vacation, or achieve a goal. But joy is the deepest level. Joy depends not on a moment or a situation but on your disposition. This joy is what keeps us going and allows us to smile in the midst of life’s tragedies and trials.

In the animated movie Inside Out 2, Joy said to Sadness, “Wherever you go, I go.” We often think that sadness is the opposite of joy. The truth is, they are twins. We are able to appreciate and savor the sweetness of joy if we have tasted the bitterness of grief.

Are you grieving? This pain will soon pass. Joy is just around the corner. You may not understand it now, but the joy that’s coming will pale in comparison to the pain you’re experiencing.

"We cannot be disciples of God when our actions in reality are not aligned with His teachings."

Today, we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord—the day Jesus Christ was taken up into heaven, 40 days after His Resurrection. Before He ascended, He gathered His apostles, gave them final instructions, and commissioned them to spread the Good News to all nations.

The number 40 in Scripture always speaks of preparation and transformation. Jesus spent 40 days after His Resurrection preparing His apostles for their mission. Now, that same mission is passed on to us.

We, too, have a mission. But Fr. Dennis reminds us that our actions must match our faith. We cannot claim to be disciples while living disconnected from Christ's teachings. Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches." We must remain connected to Him—through prayer, through the Eucharist, through love of neighbor.

Heaven is our true home, where suffering and pain no longer exist. But to get there, we must let go of this world. We are only journeying here.

𝗘𝗡-𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗘

“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 . . . ” – 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘴 18:27

There I was, hanging on to dear life as I climbed a tall tree. I desperately pulled myself toward the platform set atop some branches. It was a team challenge, which was part of a leadership training course. At first, I was confident that I could readily accomplish the task of climbing toward the platform. But as I held the ropes and took the steps, I slowly but surely lost energy. And when I looked down, I realized I was high above the ground!

Aside from fear, failure came to mind. I was inches away from the platform but I couldn’t go further. Then I heard my teammates shouting at the top of their lungs, “You can do it!”

Their words empowered me and I said, “I can do this!” Like magic, I found a second wind of strength that propelled me up to the designated platform. Their encouragement gave me the energy and courage I needed to go higher and get to the next level.

Friend, maybe it’s time you surround yourself with encouraging people. Better still, be the encouragement people need wherever God has planted you. We all need each other to be better.

As we journey together as one faith community, the next five years of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary call us to deepen our purpose and strengthen our faith. This plan is more than activities it is a commitment to grow spiritually, serve with love, and build a united Church centered in Christ.

Guided by the Blessed Virgin Mary, we aim to strengthen our ministries, empower the youth, and reach out to those in need. This vision is for all of us as disciples and bearers of hope.
