Today, August 20, we commemorate the Memorial of ๐’๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ซ๐, Abbot and Doctor of the Church.

๐’๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ (1090โ€“1153) was a French abbot, theologian, and one of the most influential spiritual leaders of the Middle Ages. As Abbot of Clairvaux, he revitalized the ๐‚๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐œ๐ข๐š๐ง ๐Ž๐ซ๐๐ž๐ซ through his example of humility, prayer, and faithful observance of the monastic life. Renowned for his eloquent preaching and profound writings, he tirelessly defended the faith, promoted peace within the Church, and inspired countless men and women to seek a deeper relationship with Christ.

Proclaimed a Doctor of the Church, Saint Bernard is especially remembered for his profound love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and his teachings on the love of God. ๐’๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐„๐ณ๐ž๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ž๐ฅ ๐Œ๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐จ ๐ƒ๐ขฬ๐š๐ณ (1848โ€“1906) was a Spanish Augustinian Recollect missionary and bishop whose life was marked by unwavering zeal for the Gospel and deep pastoral charity. After serving as a missionary in the Philippines for many years, he was appointed Bishop of Pasto, Colombia, where he tirelessly defended the Catholic faith, cared for the poor, and faithfully shepherded his flock. Despite enduring great suffering from illness, he remained steadfast in his mission, offering his life completely in service to Christ and His Church.

Saint Ezequiel Moreno Dรญaz reminds us that authentic Christian leadership is rooted in humility, courage, and unwavering fidelity to the truth. ๐’๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐‰๐จ๐ก๐ง ๐„๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ฌ (1601โ€“1680) was a French priest, missionary, and founder of the ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‰๐ž๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ (๐‘ฌ๐’–๐’…๐’Š๐’”๐’•๐’”), established to form holy and zealous priests for the service of the Church. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the Church's greatest Marian feasts, proclaiming that, at the end of her earthly life, the Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. Preserved from sin by God's grace and united perfectly with her Son, Mary now shares fully in Christ's victory over sin and death. This solemnity, solemnly defined as a dogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950, is a joyful reminder of the hope promised to all who faithfully follow Christ.

As the Mother of God and Mother of the Church, the Blessed Virgin Mary continues to lead the faithful to her Son through her loving intercession and perfect example of discipleship. Her Assumption assures us that God's promise of eternal life is true and calls us to live lives of holiness, humility, and faithful obedience to His will. As we honor Mary today, may we entrust ourselves to her maternal care and strive to follow Christ with the same unwavering faith and love that she embodied throughout her life.
