Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines, serving as Luzon’s buffer and protection against strong typhoons, like .

With climate change, typhoons and other weather events are expected to be more intense, and to cause more losses and damages.

Towards a climate-smart and climate-resilient Philippines, the Climate Change Commission PH urges all to ramp-up nature-based solutions part of climate action: plant and grow more trees, report illegal activities, and advocate for the preservation and conservation of forests.

Ang Sierra Madre ang pinakamahabang bulubundukin sa Pilipinas, na nagsisilbing panangga at proteksyon ng Luzon laban sa malalakas na bagyo, tulad ng .

Kasabay ng nagbabagong klima, ang mga bagyo at iba pang mga sakuna ay inaasahang magiging mas matindi, at magdudulot ng mas maraming pinsala.

Tungo sa climate-smart at climate-resilient na Pilipinas, hinihikayat ng CCCC ang lahat na paigtingin ang mga ‘nature-based solutions’ kabahagi ng mas malaking pagkilos para sa klima: magtanim at magpatayog ng mga puno, iulat ang ilegal na mga gawain, at makiisa sa pangangalaga at konserbasyon ng mga kagubatan.

Idineklara ng Proklamasyon Blg. 413, s. 2012 ang ika-26 ng Setyembre bilang ‘Save Sierra Madre Day’.

ORATIO IMPERATA FOR DELIVERANCE FROM CALAMITIES

Almighty Father, we raise our hearts to You
in gratitude for the wonders of creation of which we are part,
for Your providence in sustaining us in our needs,
and for Your wisdom that guides the course of the universe.
We acknowledge our sins against You and the rest of creation.
We have not been good stewards of Nature.
We have confused Your command to subdue the earth.
The environment is made to suffer our wrongdoing,
and now we reap the harvest of our abuse and indifference.
Typhoons, heavy rains and floods occur in increasing number and intensity.
We turn to You, our loving Father, and beg forgiveness for our sins.
We ask that we, our loved ones and our hard earned possessions
be spared from the threat of calamities, natural and man-made.
We beseech You to inspire us all to grow
into responsible stewards of Your creation,
and generous neighbors to those in need.
Amen.

SEASON OF CREATION 2022

"Let us pray this month that the planet's resources will not be plundered, but shared in a just and respectful manner."
- Pope Francis on Season of Creation 2022

The season starts 1 September, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations. Throughout the month-long celebration, the world’s 2.2 billion Christians come together to care for our common home. The beginning and the end date of Season of Creation are linked with the concern for creation in the Eastern and the Western traditions of Christianity, respectively.

The burning bush is the Symbol for the Season of Creation 2022. Today, the prevalence of unnatural fires are a sign of the devastating effects that climate change has on the most vulnerable of our planet. Creation cries out as forests crackle, animals flee, and people are forced to migrate due to the fires of injustice.

On the contrary, the fire that called to Moses as he tended the flock on Mt. Horeb did not consume or destroy the bush. This flame of the Spirit revealed God’s presence. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered, and promised to be with us as we followed in faith to our deliverance from injustice.

In this Season of Creation, this symbol of God’s Spirit calls us to listen to the voice of creation.

The burning bush is the Symbol for the Season of Creation 2022. We invite you to use the symbol during your events. Today, the prevalence of unnatural fires are a sign of the devastating effects that climate change has on the most vulnerable of our planet. Human greed, desertification and land misuse lead to the disintegration of ecosystems, the destruction of habitats, and the loss of livelihoods and species at an alarming rate. Creation cries out as forests crackle, animals flee, and people are forced to migrate due to the fires of injustice that we have caused.

On the contrary, the fire that called to Moses as he tended the flock on Mt. Horeb did not consume or destroy the bush. This was a flame of the Spirit that revealed God’s life sustaining presence. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered, and promised to
be with us as we followed faithfully to deliverance from injustice. During the Season of Creation, this symbol calls us to listen to the voice of creation, and faithfully respond through
worship, repentance and action.

Moses was told to remove his sandals, for he was standing on holy ground in God’s presence.
May this symbol move us to remove the “sandals” of our unsustainable lifestyles that disconnect us from creation and our Creator, contemplate our connection to the holy ground where we live, and listen for the voice of creation.

We invite you to create your community Burning Bush to remind everyone of God's listening ears to the sufferings of the oppressed and marginalized sectors of society.
