September 22 | Feast Day of St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

He was born as Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, Italy, had a calling to become a priest from a young age. He joined the Capuchin Franciscan Order in 1903 and took the name "Pio" upon entering religious life. He was ordained a priest in 1910 and dedicated himself to a life of prayer, penance, and serving others.

Throughout his life, Padre Pio faced numerous challenges. In 1916, he experienced a mystical encounter with Jesus, which resulted in the stigmata—the visible wounds of Christ appearing on his body. This phenomenon brought both awe and skepticism from people, leading to investigations by Church authorities. Additionally, due to his reputation for possessing extraordinary spiritual gifts, Padre Pio faced restrictions and was not allowed to celebrate Mass publicly for several years.

However, despite these challenges, Padre Pio's holiness and devotion to God became widely recognized. He spent many hours hearing confessions and offering spiritual guidance to countless individuals seeking his help. His deep faith and unwavering commitment to God's work inspired the faithful and drew people from all over the world to seek his intercession.

St. Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Franciscan friar and a martyr during World War II. Born in 1894, he entered religious life and made it his mission to spread the message of God's love through writing and publishing. He founded a community he called the Militia Immaculata, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with the aim of converting sinners and promoting devotion to her.

During the war, Kolbe was arrested by the N***s and sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Amidst the unspeakable atrocities, Kolbe displayed extraordinary heroism by volunteering to take the place of a fellow prisoner who had been chosen to die. This selfless act of sacrifice touched the hearts of many witnesses and continues to inspire people today. Kolbe's life was a testament to the power of love and faith even in the darkest of times.

St. Maximilian Kolbe's story is filled with miraculous events. From his childhood vision of the Virgin Mary offering him two crowns - one white, for purity, and one red, for martyrdom - to the reported healings attributed to his intercession, his life serves as a reminder of God's presence and the triumph of good over evil. Here are three things we can learn from him:

1. He was really passionate about teaching and preaching: St. Dominic believed in spreading the message of Jesus and educating others about their faith. He knew that preaching was a powerful way to make a difference and bring people closer to God. This reminds us of the importance of sharing our beliefs and inspiring others through our words and actions.

Sta Rita de Cascia, also known as the Saint of the Impossible, is a beloved figure in the Philippines. She is a Christian saint who lived in the 14th – 15th century. Sta Rita was born in Cascia, Italy to Catholic parents. She was not initially interested in religious life, but was perseverant in her faith, known for her prayers and love of God.

Sta Rita is known for her devotion to God and her miraculous intervention in the lives of those who seek her help. Filipinos have a deep devotion to her, particularly in times of need, since she is the patron saint of impossible cases, abused women, troubled marriages, and infertility. Many Filipinos pray to Sta Rita to intercede on their behalf, believing that she can work wonders even in the most hopeless situations.

Many miracles have been attributed to Sta Rita, including healing of illnesses and ailments, protecting people from danger, and reconciling families. One of her most famous miracles was when she was able to bend a silver crucifix to her will without breaking it. This act is said to symbolize her ability to bend the will of God to help those who call upon her in faith.

Dear God,

On this day, we remember the ultimate sacrifice that your son, Jesus Christ, made for us. Through his death and crucifixion, we were saved and given the gift of salvation.

We are humbled by the depth of his love for us, that he would give up his own life to redeem us from our sins. We pray that we never forget the magnitude of this sacrifice and that it always serves as a reminder of your unwavering love for us.

He broke bread and shared wine with his apostles, saying "this is my body" and "this is my blood".

Catholics believe that Jesus offers himself as food for the soul in the Eucharist, making him truly present in the bread and wine. A day to honor St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ and the Husband of Mary.

St. Joseph the Worker is a relevant figure today, especially in the face of the challenges we all encounter at present. As society who experience obstacles and challenges, mental health issues become more prevalent, and we all feel an increased levels of stress and anxiety, we can look to St. Joseph as an example of perseverance and dedication.

He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, even in difficult circumstances, and was known for his quiet strength and dependability.

There are several miracles associated with St. Joseph, but one of the most famous is the Miracle of the Stairs.

According to the story, there was a chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico that was built in the 1800s. The chapel had no staircase to the choir loft, and the sisters who worshipped there were unable to reach it to sing.

The story goes that the sisters prayed to St. Joseph for help, and one day an unknown carpenter showed up at the chapel and offered to build a staircase.

He worked in solitude for many weeks, and when the staircase was completed, the carpenter disappeared without payment or thanks.

The staircase, which spirals upwards with no visible means of support, is said to be an engineering marvel, and visitors from all over the world come to see it today. The staircase became known as the Miracle Staircase of St. Joseph.

St. Joseph teaches us the importance of maintaining a strong work ethic, even when faced with difficulty. He shows us that through hard work, dedication, and a reliance on our faith, we can overcome even the most significant challenges.
