‘PAGTUNTON’ OF THE EASTER ANGELS
IN PHOTOS: Early on Easter Sunday, the traditional Pagtunton was held at the Parish of St. Martin de Porres, drawing parishioners to witness one of the most anticipated highlights of the Easter celebration.
The rite featured young children, known as “Easter Angels,” who were carefully positioned atop a structure called the Castillo. One by one, they were gradually lowered while joyfully singing “Alleluia,” symbolizing the proclamation of Christ’s resurrection and the triumph of life over death.
A key moment of the ceremony was performed by the chosen Easter Angel, who was given the honor of removing the black veil covering the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as the ‘Virgen de Alegria.’ This act represents the transition from mourning to joy, signifying that Christ has risen and bringing gladness to His Mother and to the faithful.
The Pagtunton remains a meaningful tradition in the parish, reflecting the message of hope, renewal, and victory that defines the celebration of Easter Sunday.
