LOOK | Today, the faithful gathered at the Parish of St. Gregory the Great to offer praise and thanksgiving during the Holy Eucharistic celebration. The solemn liturgy was presided over by Rev. Fr. Elvin Lumantas, SHF, whose inspiring homily reminded the congregation of the deep commitment required to follow Christ faithfully in our daily lives.

As the parish community came together in prayer, hearts were renewed with faith, hope, and the love of God. We extend our deepest gratitude to Fr. Lumantas for shepherding us today, and to all the ministries, choir, and parishioners who offered their time and devotion to make this celebration meaningful. May the blessings of this holy mass sustain us throughout the week as we strive to be living witnesses of the Gospel.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ St. Roch (San Roque) | San Roque, is a Catholic saint traditionally honored as a patron saint against plagues and contagious diseases. His feast day is celebrated on August 16.

๐Ÿ“– Life of St. Roch
St. Roch was traditionally born in Montpellier, France, around the 14th century. According to tradition, he came from a wealthy family but chose a life of prayer and service.
After losing his parents, Roch gave away much of his possessions and became a pilgrim. He traveled to Italy during a time when plague was spreading.

Instead of avoiding people who were sick, Roch helped and cared for those affected by the plague, praying for them and serving them.
Eventually, he himself became sick. He withdrew into a forest where, according to tradition, a dog brought him bread each day and helped lead people to him. This is why St. Roch is often shown with a dog beside him.

โœ๏ธ His Faith and Example
St. Roch is remembered for:
Compassion โ€“ He cared for people who were suffering.
Charity โ€“ He gave up his wealth to serve others.
Faith โ€“ He trusted God during difficult times.
Service โ€“ He helped the sick instead of turning away from them.
Humility โ€“ He lived simply and devoted himself to God.

๐Ÿ• Why is there a dog beside San Roque?
The dog is one of the most recognizable symbols of St. Roch. Tradition says that when Roch was sick and isolated, a dog regularly brought him bread. The dog therefore represents God's providence and care.
๐Ÿ™ What can we learn from St. Roch?
The life of San Roque reminds Christians that true faith is shown through love and service to others, especially people who are suffering or in need.

His example can inspire us to be more compassionate, generous, and willing to help our neighbors.

5th GLORIOUS MYSTERY | Today, as a parish community, we celebrate the Memorial of the Queenship of Mary. Elevated to heaven, Our Lady is crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth; not to rule with worldly power, but to guide us with a motherโ€™s endless love and intercession.

As Mary stood faithfully by her Son from the Incarnation to the Cross, she continues to stand by each of us, pointing the way toward Jesus. Let us turn to our Queen and Mother today with trusting hearts, asking for her protection, grace, and peace in our families and community.

For the Protection of Our Schools and Children

Almighty and loving Father, You are our refuge and strength, our help in times of fear and distress.

We come before You with troubled hearts because of the violence and shootings that have brought fear to our schools, families, and communities.

Lord, protect our children and young people. Keep them safe wherever they study, play, and gather. Grant wisdom and vigilance to parents, teachers, school personnel, and all entrusted with their care.

Comfort those who have been wounded and traumatized, and console families and communities living in grief and fear.

Touch those who carry anger, hatred, loneliness, or thoughts of harming themselves or others. Send them people who will listen and help, and lead them toward healing, peace, and hope.

Grant wisdom and courage to our government officials, law-enforcement agencies, school authorities, and Church leaders. Help us recognize warning signs, address the causes of violence,
protect the vulnerable, and never remain indifferent.

Make our homes places of love and prayer, our schools places of safety and formation, and our communities places where every life is valued and protected.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, watch over us.
Seรฑor Santo Niรฑo, protect the children of Cebu and keep them close to Your loving heart.

Last Sunday, August 16,2026, our community gathered around the altar at the Parish of St. Gregory the Great for our Annual Renewal of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We offered our hearts, families, and our beloved town of Ginatilan to Jesus through His Blessed Mother.

San Roque | St. Roch, also known as San Roque, is a Catholic saint traditionally honored as a protector against plague and infectious diseases. His feast day is celebrated on August 16.

According to tradition, St. Roch was born in Montpellier, France, around the 14th century. He came from a wealthy family but chose to give his possessions to the poor and became a pilgrim, traveling to Rome.

During his journey, he devoted himself to caring for people suffering from the plague. He eventually became ill himself and withdrew to a forest so that he would not infect others. Tradition says that a dog brought him bread and helped sustain him, which is why St. Roch is often depicted with a dog beside him and a mark on his leg.

Because of his charitable life and dedication to the sick, devotion to St. Roch spread throughout Europe and later to many parts of the world, including the Philippines.
