Gospel Christian Baptist Church

Gospel Christian Baptist Church always caring...always loving...a church for everyone. The Bible is Perfect. We accept every word of it completely – from cover to cover.

Gospel Christian Baptist Church (GCBC) is a local group of people who firmly believe and practice the following things as presented in the Bible:

1. God claims: “Every word of God is pure.” Proverbs 30:5.

2. We Preach and Teach only the Bible – not books about the Bible, nor do we teach extra prayers, or teach our own church doctrines, but only the truths found clearly in the Bible. “All s

cripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16,17 We base every belief and every aspect of Christianity only on the Bible – to the exclusion of all traditions, no matter how good they may be.

3. We Believe the Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died on the cross for all sins of all time, was buried, and then rose again just as He promised three days later for the salvation of His followers from hell! “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel… that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” 1Corinthians 15:1-4.

4. We Believe all people are born sinful and separated from God, and must be born again from the heart by simple and obedient faith in the Gospel! “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3. Jesus commands, “Ye must be born again” John 3:7!

5. We Believe a person who is saved (born again) by God’s grace is eternally secure in His care – you cannot lose your salvation once you receive it. Jesus said in John 10:28, “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

6. We Believe in a literal heaven, and a literal hell, and reject the idea of purgatory, nirvana or any other place that is contrary to the word of God. Jesus promised His followers a place in God’s heaven, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:1-3. Jesus also will say to the damned, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:41

7. We Believe if a person rejects Jesus Christ, and trusts instead in their religion, or their good efforts, that person will not earn heaven, but end up in hell. “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition… Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” Mark 7:9,13 “He that believeth on him (Jesus) is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already.” John 3:18

8. We Believe when a person is saved from sin and hell, they are to be baptized in water by full immersion, not by sprinkling – baptism is to be completely immersed in water as a testimony of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection for them. “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized (immersed): and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:4. After getting baptized you should join a Baptist church!

9. We Believe Baptism is nothing more than our obedience to God’s word. It does not save a soul, or bring any spiritual blessing or grace upon the participant – only what Jesus did on the cross has any special and eternal effect on a believer. “The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

10. We Believe Jesus Christ is coming again very soon, and this time to be King of all kings, and Lord of all Lords! “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 25:13 “And he shall reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 11:5

11. We Reject experiences (miraculous or otherwise) when contrary to God’s word. “And (the devil) deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do” Revelation 13:14 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone.” Revelation 20:10. “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:13,14

12. We Worship God as a Trinity - three equal Persons, and yet one God - the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7

13. We Reject the worship of any other being, whether Mary, or of saints, or of religious objects since their worship is completely contrary to the word of God. “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5

14. We Believe every born again believer is equal in the sight of God because of the power of Christ’s salvation, and that each believer has direct access to God because of Jesus Christ. There is therefore no need for priests or any other religious hierarchy. “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God … Let us (ALL) therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16.

15. We Believe the Christian life is one of complete obedience to the commands of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them (obeys them), he it is that loveth me.” John 14:21. Finally, it has always been Bible believers who have banded together to preach and teach all the Bible, to live the Bible’s commands without fear of man or king, and to encourage each other. The groups who believed the above list, were labelled “Baptists” by the Catholic Church during the great persecutions of the Dark Ages because they required people who had been baptized as babies to get re-baptized once they repented and were truly born again the Bible way. We are neither Catholic, nor Protestant, but Bible-believing followers of the Lord Jesus!

The Promised Rest

by Dr. Paul Chappell

For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:8-11

Jesus never promised His followers that their lives would be easy. In fact, He told them the exact opposite. When one man expressed a desire to follow Jesus, the Lord pointed out the reality of His own situation: "And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head” (Matthew 8:20). There is no reason for us as followers of Jesus to expect that we are promised ease and comfort. Instead, what we are promised is the rest that God gives to those who labor for Him. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). There will come a day when we lay our burdens down and enjoy complete rest, but until then we can rely on God for the strength to remain faithful to Him.

Scottish pastor and hymn writer Horatius Bonar said, “The road to the Kingdom is not so pleasant, and comfortable, and easy, and flowery, as many dream. It is not a bright sunny avenue of palms. It is not paved with triumph, though it is to end in victory. The termination is glory, honor, and immortality; but on the way, there is the thorn in the flesh, the sackcloth, and the cross. Recompense later; but labor here! Rest later; but weariness here! Joy and security later; but here endurance and watchfulness—the race, the battle, the burden, the stumbling block, and oftentimes the heavy heart.” Every time we are tempted to quit, we can remind ourselves of the promised rest for those who finish the race faithfully.

Today's Growth Principle
The eternal rest God promises His children is at the end of the path He has given us to follow.

Paid in Full

by Dr. Paul Chappell

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Colossians 2:13-15

In 2003 Andrew Malkinson was convicted of r**e in England, despite insisting he was innocent. Throughout his incarceration he continued to deny responsibility for the crime, which led to him being refused parole. Finally in 2020 a DNA test proved that he was not the guilty party and Malkinson was released from prison. Under English law, he was due compensation for wrongful imprisonment, but to his shock he was told that any compensation he received would be reduced by 100,000 pounds to cover the cost of his room and board during his seventeen years in jail. Malkinson reached out to the Ministry of Justice, and because of his complaint the policy was changed. Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk declared, “It is not right that victims of devastating miscarriages of justice can have deductions made for saved living expenses.”

When Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross, He did not leave us with a balance still due that would have to be paid later. He paid the debt in full and our sins have been covered forever—even outside the remembrance of God: “...for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:34). It is common for people to struggle with guilt over things they have done wrong, and guilt is a good thing when it leads us to repentance. But once we have confessed and forsaken sin, God will never bring it up again.

Today's Growth Principle
Christians never receive a "bill" for sin, because Jesus paid it all.

Jesus Knows

by Dr. Paul Chappell

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16

The story goes that a group of men were standing by a river crossing, waiting for a ferry to come back from the other side to take them across. The water was not terribly deep, but the current made it difficult to cross on foot. As they waited, a group of men rode up on horseback and began to make their way across the water. One of the waiting men, hoping to continue on his trip faster watched several of them pass by, then asked one member of the group for a ride. The rider consented, and the man rode behind him safely across the river. When he reached the other side and the riders went on, the ferry operator spoke to him. “I saw you let several men go by before asking for help. Why did you wait to ask General Andrew Jackson for a ride?” The man responded, “I didn't know he was General Jackson. I just waited for someone whose face said 'Yes'.”

All of us know what it feels like to ask someone for help and be turned down, or to receive help, but only grudgingly or with strings attached. That never happens when we come to God. He is not stingy with help, nor does He complain or criticize us because we are coming to Him too often. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Jesus knows the heartaches and burdens and troubles we face, because He dealt with the same things while He was here on Earth.

Today's Growth Principle
Jesus knows our pain and is quick to respond when we turn to Him for help.
