From the Gospel according to John 20:19-23

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

-

In the midst of fear and uncertainty, Jesus comes to His disciples not with condemnation, but with peace.

Through His presence, He transforms their fear into joy and sends them out to continue His mission of love and forgiveness.

The Gospel reminds us that even behind closed doors, Christ enters our hearts, breathes new life into us, and calls us to become instruments of peace to others.

From the Gospel according to John 21:20-25

Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved,
the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper
and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?”
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus,
“Lord, what about him?”
Jesus said to him,
“What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?
You follow me.”
So the word spread among the brothers
that that disciple would not die.
But Jesus had not told him that he would not die,
just “What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?”
It is this disciple who testifies to these things
and has written them,
and we know that his testimony is true.
There are also many other things that Jesus did,
but if these were to be described individually,
I do not think the whole world
would contain the books that would be written.

Jesus calls His disciples to follow Him faithfully without comparing their journey to others.

Each believer is entrusted with a unique purpose, and through lives rooted in faith and love, they are called to witness to the truth of Christ.

From the Gospel according to John 17:20-26

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and prayed, saying:
“I pray not only for them,
but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
so that they may all be one,
as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
that they also may be in us,
that the world may believe that you sent me.
And I have given them the glory you gave me,
so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me,
that they may be brought to perfection as one,
that the world may know that you sent me,
and that you loved them even as you loved me.
Father, they are your gift to me.
I wish that where I am they also may be with me,
that they may see my glory that you gave me,
because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Righteous Father, the world also does not know you,
but I know you,
and they know that you sent me.
I made known to them your name and I will make it known,
that the love with which you loved me
may be in them and I in them.”

Jesus calls all believers to live in unity, love, and communion with God and one another.

Through His prayer, Christ reminds His followers to reflect God’s love by living in faith, peace, and faithful witness to the world.

From the Gospel according to John 17:1-11a

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:
“Father, the hour has come.
Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,
just as you gave him authority over all people,
so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him.
Now this is eternal life,
that they should know you,
the only true God,
and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
I glorified you on earth
by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.
Now glorify me, Father, with you,
with the glory that I had with you before the world began.
I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world.
They belonged to you, and you gave them to me,
and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
because the words you gave to me I have given to them,
and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you,
and they have believed that you sent me.
I pray for them.
I do not pray for the world
but for the ones you have given me,
because they are yours.”

Jesus prays to the Father with love and devotion, revealing His deep desire for His disciples to remain united with God in faith and truth.

Through His words, Christ reminds believers that eternal life is found in knowing and following the Father who sent Him.

As Jesus entrusted His mission to His disciples, believers are also called to remain faithful to God’s word and live as witnesses of His love.

In prayer and communion with God, believers find strength, purpose, and the grace to continue walking in faith.

From the Gospel according to Matthew 28:16-20

The eleven disciples went to Galilee,
to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
Then Jesus approached and said to them,
“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Jesus commissions His disciples to continue His mission by proclaiming the Gospel and leading others to faith.
Though they may still struggle with doubt and uncertainty, Christ reminds them that His authority and presence remain with them always.

Through the gift of the Holy Trinity, believers are called to live as faithful witnesses who teach, serve, and share God’s love with all nations.
Strengthened by Christ’s promise, believers are invited to walk in courage, obedience, and trust as they fulfill His mission in the world.

From the Gospel according to John 16:20-23 (NABRE)

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will weep and mourn,
while the world rejoices;
you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.

When a woman is in labor,
she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;
but when she has given birth to a child,
she no longer remembers the pain
because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.
So you also are now in anguish.
But I will see you again,
and your hearts will rejoice,
and no one will take your joy away from you.”

Jesus reminds His disciples that sorrow and suffering are not the end.

Even in moments of grief and uncertainty, Christ assures His followers that His presence brings hope that no trial can overcome.

Through faith and trust in Him, believers are strengthened to persevere with courage and confidence.

In every hardship, believers are called to hold on to the joy and peace that come from the promise of Christ’s love and victory.

From the Gospel according to John 15:9-17

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you
and your joy might be complete.

This is my commandment:
love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves,
because a slave does not know what his master is doing.
I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me,
but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain.”

-

Jesus calls His disciples to remain in His love by loving one another with sincerity and sacrifice.

Through His example of selfless love and friendship, believers are called to live with joy, faithfulness, and compassion as they bear lasting fruit in Him.

From the Gospel according to John 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.

He will glorify me,
because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Everything that the Father has is mine;
for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine
and declare it to you.”

Jesus assures His disciples that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide them in wisdom and truth.
Though they may not yet fully understand God’s plans, they are invited to trust in the Spirit who leads them closer to the heart of Christ.

The Spirit reveals the love and unity of the Father and the Son, strengthening believers to grow in faith and understanding.
Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, believers are called to listen with open hearts, walk in truth, and remain faithful to God’s will each day.

From the Gospel according to Gospel of John 15:26—16:4a

Jesus said to his disciples:

“When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father,
he will testify to me.
And you also testify,
because you have been with me from the beginning.

I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
They will expel you from the synagogues;
in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you
will think he is offering worship to God.
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
I have told you this so that when their hour comes
you may remember that I told you.”

Jesus reminds His disciples that the Holy Spirit will remain with them as Advocate and guide in truth.

Following Christ may bring rejection and hardship, yet His followers are not abandoned.

The Spirit gives believers courage to witness faithfully and remain steadfast in every trial.

Through the presence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, believers are called to persevere in faith, truth, and love.
