But we go to church every Sunday because we want a better life, not only financially or physically, but as a whole. ❤️

A better mind.
A better heart.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡: 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗦

“But David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
— 1 Samuel 30:6 KJV

Our brain has the amazing ability 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀.The more we repeat something, the more those patterns can become reinforced. This is where we were reminded to pay attention to the words we speak, especially the words we speak to ourselves.

Every word we say 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 is registered by our minds. In moments when we are facing difficult and overwhelming situations, it can be easy to speak words of fear, defeat, and doubt. But just like David, who was greatly distressed 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱, we can choose to speak words of faith even when our situation is difficult.

There is a connection between what happens to us and how we respond: 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. What we repeatedly tell ourselves can reinforce the way we think, feel, and act.

That is why we need to sanctify our tongue and become intentional with our words. Instead of constantly saying “𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁,” “𝗜’𝗺 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱,” 𝗼𝗿 “𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸,” let us learn to declare the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱 over our lives.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful...”

The more we learn the Bible, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀. The more we fill our minds with God's Word, the more we have truth to speak when challenges come.

𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

Last Sunday, we were reminded of the powerful connection between our thoughts, our words, and the way we respond to difficult situations. David was surrounded by distress, yet instead of allowing the situation to defeat him, he encouraged himself in the Lord.

Our words can either build us up or pull us down. What we continually speak can shape the way we think, especially during moments of fear, pressure, and discouragement. That is why we must be intentional about the words we speak over ourselves and others.

May we learn to speak words of faith, hope, and encouragement. When everything around us says “you can't,” may our words remind us of what God can do. 🙏🤍
