𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗞𝗔𝗨𝗡𝗔-𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗜𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗔 𝗣𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗦

Noong March 5, 1899, itinatag ang kauna-unahang Protestanteng simbahan sa Pilipinas – ang Central United Methodist Church.

Binuo ang Central United Methodist Church, o kilala rin bilang ‘the American Church’, upang tugunan ang ispiritwal na pangangailangan ng mga Amerikanong sundalo at sibilyan na nakadestino sa Maynila. Unang itinindig ang kapilya nito sa Nozaleda Street (ngayo’y General Luna Street) sa Maynila noong March 5, 1899. Noong October 1901 nang makabili ng lote ang lupon ng Central Methodist Episcopal Church sa San Luis Street (ngayo’y T. M. Kalaw Avenue) at General Luna Street. Ito ang kauna-unahang lote sa bansa na ginamit para sa iglesia ng Protestante. Isang kapilyang yari sa kahoy ang itinindig sa lote noong December 23, 1901 at tinawag na Central Methodist Episcopal Church. Pinalitan ito ng batong simbahan noong 1906. Noong 1916 nang magpalit ng ngalan ang iglesia at tinawag na Central Student Church dahil karamihan sa mga kasapi nito’y pawang mga estudyante sa Maynila. Ang patuloy na pagdami ng kasapi ng iglesia ang dahilan upang palakihin pa ang simbahan. Isang bagong katedral na idinisenyo ni Juan Arellano ang pinasinayaan noong June 19, 1932. Kasama ang simbahang ito sa mga nasira sa kasagsagan ng Battle of Manila noong World War II (1945). Sa pagtatapos ng digmaan, pinondohan ang pagsasaayos sa simbahan hanggang sa pasinayaan ang bagong gawang kapilya noong December 25, 1949. Sa pagsasama ng Methodist Church at ng Evangelical United Brethren sa Dallas, Texas, U.S.A., pinalitan ang ngalan ng simbahan ng Central United Methodist Church.

Noong 1985, isang historical marker ang inilagak sa simbahan ng National Historical Institute (ngayo’y National Historical Commission of the Philippines).
