Philippians 1:20 NKJV

Paul fully expected and hoped that he would remain faithful to his life's end and never be ashamed of his Saviour, but would continue to be as bold for Christ as he had been in the past, trusting that his life would bring honour to Him, whether he lived or died.

Let us endeavour to be like Paul and develop an eager expectation to be our utmost for His highest. May we stand fast to the end and never have reason to feel ashamed of our Saviour so that Christ is glorified in all we say and all we are, whether we live or die.

2 Timothy 4:18 NKJV

In this letter to the young pastor, we discover that Paul was suffering greatly for the sake of the gospel of Christ. However, despite his difficult trials and mounting tribulations, Paul was able to rejoice that the Lord had stood by him and strengthened him in his hour of desperate need. But the important message that he wanted to relay to Timothy was faithfulness - to faithfully continue to preach the Word, to be ready in season and out of season, to be prepared to reprove, rebuke, exhort, and encourage other believers with great patience and godly instruction.

Paul wanted to encourage Timothy and assure him that God is faithful to keep His promises, that the Lord would rescue him from every evil deed and every corrupt happening, and that God would bring him safely to his heavenly kingdom, for in Christ is all the power and all the glory forever and ever, amen.

When we worry, we focus on the circumstances of life, but in prayer, we focus on our Lord. Worry is self-centered and selfish and is rooted in the sin of unbelief, but prayer is Christ-Centered and pleasing to Him, for prayer is built on a heart that trusts His Word and depends upon Him for all our needs.

This is what the wise man or woman should not say. Wisdom and obedience to God teach us that vengeance belongs to the LORD

“Vengeance belongs to God. Nobody else is fit to wield this. God is omniscient; our knowledge is at most partial. God’s judgment is perfect, while we are blinded by our prejudices and evil desires.” (Bridges)

Wisdom teaches us to rely on God and trust in Him to recompense evil. This does not mean that wisdom is indifferent to evil and will never oppose it; it means that wisdom recognizes that there are many times – more than we think – when we should let go of any kind of recompense towards evil and wait for the LORD to save us.

Since the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, it wonderfully leads to life. If we want life, we should begin with this honor, reverent awe and submission to God.

When we have, and walk in, the fear of the LORD, it leads to a life of satisfaction. The world, the flesh, and the devil want to convince us that a life founded on fear of the LORD leads to misery, but the opposite is true. It brings satisfaction and keeps us from a future of evil.

For where your treasure is whether in heaven, or in earth, there will your heart will be also: the heart is always set upon the treasure, and is a man's treasure, such is his heart, that is, set upon it; if his treasure is only here and he has not the true riches, his heart is only earthly and carnal; but if he his treasure is heavenly, his heart and conversation will be in heaven.

The concepts of seeking God's kingdom, resting in His provision, and directing our treasures toward heavenly things are linked.

Often, our impulse to store up vast amounts of earthly treasure, or to seek out earthly accolades, is founded in fear. But when our trust is in God, we can view our finances, time, and abilities as gifts from Him entrusted to us for His glory. We can rest secure in His love and care for us, trusting in Him rather than in fleeting things. As our hearts are inclined to God, so, too, will our treasures be directed toward things that He values.
