There is an old distinction between "profession" and "confession" which seems to apply here. To profess is to simply make a claim with your mouth to be a Christian; to confess is to give witness from the heart of what you know to be true. Those who confess Christ and are not afraid to do so before other men, will have their reward from Him.

This shepherd would do them harm and not good. They had rejected Jehovah-God as their Shepherd-king, and now they were given another shepherd whom they would chafe under.

When a spiritual leader is more invested in building their own kingdom than comforting yours, their words become hollow. Listen closely to the underlying melody of their message: if every sermon secretly stars them, and every virtue they praise is one they claim to possess, it is not faith they are preaching it is themselves. Walk away, because a shepherd who falls in love with their own voice will eventually forget how to protect the flock.

When an egoist preacher takes the stage, their claims almost always serve a singular purpose: to elevate themselves while keeping the congregation dependent on them. Because they cannot rely on genuine, humble service, they manufacture authority through specific, elevated assertions.
