A FAMILY PRAYER FOR VISITING A CEMETERY | See here a short Family Prayer for our guide as we pay a visit to our beloved departed in commemoration of our Faithful Departed this November. This may be led by the head of the family.

The best thing we can give our departed loved ones is our prayers. Hence, let us storm the heavens for them, asking our Merciful Lord to grant them eternal rest.

Today, November 1, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the SOLEMNITY of ALL SAINTS

The earliest certain observance of a feast in honor of all the saints is an early fourth-century commemoration of โ€œall the martyrs.โ€

In the early seventh century, after successive waves of invaders plundered the catacombs, Pope Boniface IV gathered up some 28 wagon loads of bones and reinterred them beneath the Pantheon, a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods. The pope rededicated the shrine as a Christian church.

According to Venerable Bede, the pope intended โ€œthat the memory of all the saints might in the future be honored in the place which had formerly been dedicated to the worship not of gods but of demons.โ€
