The 24/7 Follow (Be a Disciple)
In a society when "following" someone typically entails clicking a button on social media, Jesus defines it quite differently. 👇
Luke 9:23
"Then he said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.'"
Following Jesus is more than simply a feeling; it is a three-step method.
1. Deny Yourself
- This is not about hating yourself or being a "doormat." It is about identity and importance.
* The World tells you " You are the main character" ( The main character trap)
* Jesus says " Let me lead you, Let me be the leading actor in your life"
* Your fleshly desires contradicts the truth, your fleshly desire is committing sins that's why you need to deny yourself (flesh) and let Jesus control your life.
2. Take the Cross
- For those who were listening to Jesus, the "cross" represented complete dedication and sacrifice rather than a piece of jewelry.
*The world tells you " give up"
* Jesus says "keep going, endure it"
* Taking the cross means embracing your sufferings. When you start following Christ there will be a lot of trials to test your faith, that's why just focus on Jesus and embrace your suffering because for those who endure their suffering will be save. (Matthew 24:13)
3. Follow me
- The active portion is this. You must be traveling in the same direction as the person you are following. In order to follow Jesus, you must examine how He lived—His bravery, compassion, and love—and make an effort to emulate those qualities in your relationships with friends, family, and school.
Conclusion :
The most difficult and fruitful "follow" you will ever do is following Jesus. It's about a connection with someone who sacrificed everything for you, not about according to a set of rules. When Jesus commands us to "deny ourselves," He is not attempting to rob us of our enjoyment. His goal is to provide us with a better, more expansive life that isn't focused on our own stress and ego. It is difficult to bear your cross every day, but you never have to do it alone because He is walking beside you.
