DIOCESE OF DUMAGUETE
Diocesan Task Force PANAGHIUSA for Community Sustainability & Well-Being In COVID 19 Times.
FRAMEWORK:
Almost all regions and provinces in the Philippines are under ECQ due to the catastrophic spread of COVID-19. Currently, the Country has seen over 300 deaths in at least 13 regions, with Metro Manila having the highest percentage, and over 5000 confirmed cases coming from all regions (DOH). Medical studies show that being a respiratory virus, human to human infection of corona virus takes place through the transmission of respiratory droplets from nose or mouth (healthline.com) via close contacts or interaction with symptomatic or asymptomatic individual carrier. Gatherings, large or small, can be a good vehicle for the virus to be transmitted from one recipient to another. The imposition of social distancing, the observance of proper hygiene, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are some of the many ways by which people prevent the spread of the virus. Putting provinces under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is a way of preventing a possible surge in the number of positive cases as it keeps people from their usual activities and life routine. But while ECQ helps prevent the spread of the virus, it also limits people’s economic activity, particularly, those coming from the lower economic strata of society.
