𝗡𝗛𝗖𝗣 𝗨𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼’𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵

In a milestone for Mindanao’s cultural preservation, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) officially unveiled the “Simbahan ng Del Carmen” historical marker last Friday, January 16, 2026.

Led by NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., the ceremony formally recognized the parish as one of the oldest outposts of Christianity in the region and a candidate for the oldest surviving structure in the province.

The marker was accepted by Del Carmen Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ricardo A. Virtudazo, DCS, with NHCP Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo and Del Carmen Mayor Alfredo M. Coro II witnessing the historic event.

The recognition solidifies the church's status as a pillar of Siargao’s rich spiritual and architectural heritage, offering travelers and locals alike a profound window into the deep-seated history of the Caraga region.

A heartfelt congratulations to the community of Del Carmen.

Oratio Imperata for Protection from Earthquakes

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Loving and merciful God, Creator of heaven and earth, we humbly turn to You as our protector and refuge. You are the solid rock on which we stand.

In times of earthquakes and calamities, keep us safe under Your care. Calm our fears, strengthen our faith, and protect our homes, schools, and communities from harm.

Lord, grant wisdom and courage to our leaders, rescuers, and all who work to safeguard lives. May Your guiding hand be upon them.

Inspire us to be vigilant, united, and compassionate, helping one another in moments of danger and need.

We entrust ourselves to Your loving providence. Through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, and all the saints, shield us from all harm and bring us peace.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The rainy is upon down, congregation remained undeterred. Despite the relentless downpour, they gathered beneath the sacred arches, united in their unwavering faith.

The mass continued uninterrupted, a testament to the enduring power of faith. As the congregation recited prayers and hymns, their voices blended in harmony, transcending the tempest outside. In this sacred space, the boundaries between heaven and earth dissolved, and the spirit of community prevailed.

First Sunday of Epiphany: The Baptism of the Lord
January 5, 2025

The Baptism of Jesus reveals His humility and willingness to align Himself with humanity’s need for renewal and repentance. Though sinless, He seeks baptism from John to "fulfill all righteousness," showing His commitment to God’s plan and solidarity with us. As the heavens open, God’s voice proclaims, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him, I am well pleased.” This moment reminds us of our identity as beloved children of God, claimed through baptism and called to reflect His love in our lives.

This Sunday also invites us to reflect on the role of the Holy Spirit, who descended upon Jesus like a dove, empowering Him for His mission. Through our baptism, the same Spirit fills us with grace to live faithfully. Are we open to the Spirit’s guidance in our daily lives? This week, let us renew our commitment to living as God’s beloved, embracing humility, and sharing His light with the world.
