Speaking in Tongues can Save your Life and others!
Devouring God’s Word and Speaking in tongues can turn any bad mouth into a prophetic mouth! Tongues is a spiritual gift available for every believer. When tongues is combined with God’s Word, it will bear the fruit of peace inside the believer and wisdom from the believer. This gift is so controversial because unless we personally practice praying in tongues it is easy to lose its value. So many get caught up trying to understanding God intellectually without knowing Him intimately. I believe we should have both!
Tongues is a key gift the Lord has given His Church. When it is practiced it helps us to know the difference between the God’s truth and the avalanche of false teachings around us.
In the entire chapter of Jude the author discusses the danger of false teachers. Then in Jude 1:20-23 he shares how we are to prepare ourselves to resist this “spiritual avalanche” of false teachers and their false doctrines:
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.
Jude exhorts us to pray in the Holy Spirit (tongues) so that as we do, our faith will be; 1. Based on God’s love 2. Strengthened like a muscle 3. Abiding in holiness.
Praying in tongues teaches us to abide in God‘s love and mercy to inherit eternal life by faith. This strengthens us to value God’s Word and protect us from agreeing with any false teaching errors. Tongues also gives us compassion for those in error, so that we would not be afraid of the persecution/temptation that may come against us.
Evangelist Steve Hill once said; “One of the most powerful weapons we possess to combat this onslaught (of false teachers) is the tongue. Let God set your tongue ablaze by preaching ALL the words in RED (the words of Jesus). If we take action now the result will be a tearing down of false teaching and a remaining layer of solid, God given, biblical instruction that will save the lost, heal the sick and strengthen Christians to do the true work of the ministry.”
Our tongues must be trained to not spread evil but worship the Lord. Then as we pray, tongues will release The Word of God we have hidden in our hearts to prophetically speak through us with grace and authority.
1 Corinthians 14:15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
