Feast of St. Padre Pio

Today, the Church honors St. Pio of Pietrelcina, a humble Capuchin friar chosen by God to bear the wounds of Christ. Through his life of deep prayer, tireless hours in the confessional, and profound love for the Holy Eucharist, Padre Pio became a beacon of God’s mercy for countless souls.

He reminds us that holiness is found in surrendering everything to God — our joys, our struggles, and even our sufferings. His words and example invite us to trust in the Lord’s providence, remain faithful to the sacraments, and live a life wholly pleasing to God.

🙏 On this feast day, let us ask St. Padre Pio’s intercession, that we too may persevere in prayer, carry our crosses with love, and keep our eyes fixed on heaven.

St. Padre Pio, pray for us. ✝️

Saint Padre Pio
Feast day September 23, 2025

1. **Stigmata:**
Saint Pio of Pietrelcina is known for having received the stigmata, wounds similar to those of the crucified Christ, which he bore for 50 years. These wounds were inexplicable by medical science and inspired great devotion among the faithful.

2. **Bilocation:**
Padre Pio was often reported to have the ability of bilocation, meaning he could appear in two places at the same time. There are numerous testimonies from people who claimed to have seen him in different locations simultaneously.

3. **Confessions:**
Saint Pio spent many hours each day hearing confessions from the faithful. It is said that he had the ability to read people's hearts and reveal their hidden sins, guiding them toward repentance.

4. **Visions and Spiritual Battles:**
Padre Pio had numerous visions of Christ, Mary, and other saints. He was also known for his spiritual battles with the devil, who tormented him both physically and spiritually.

September 23, 2025: A Day of Grace — Memorial of St. Padre Pio and Tuesday Devotion to St. Anthony of Padua

On September 23, the Catholic Church joyfully remembers two powerful witnesses of faith: St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina and St. Anthony of Padua. While the universal calendar sets aside this day as the Memorial of St. Padre Pio, many faithful also dedicate their prayers on Tuesdays to St. Anthony of Padua. This beautiful convergence invites the faithful to reflect on the richness of Catholic devotion and the way God works through His saints to draw people closer to Him.

St. Padre Pio: A Living Icon of Christ’s Passion

Born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy, St. Padre Pio (1887–1968) became a Capuchin friar and priest who bore the wounds of Christ — the stigmata — for most of his life. Known for his deep love of the Eucharist, endless hours in the confessional, and spiritual gifts of healing and prophecy, Padre Pio’s life embodied both suffering and grace.

He once reminded the faithful: “Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.” These words, simple yet profound, continue to guide countless souls struggling with fear and doubt. His memorial on September 23 invites the faithful to trust in God’s providence, embrace suffering with courage, and live lives anchored in prayer.

St. Anthony of Padua: The Wonder-Worker

Though his feast is celebrated on June 13, devotion to St. Anthony of Padua (1195–1231) is especially observed on Tuesdays — a tradition tracing back to miracles granted through his intercession shortly after his death. Known as the Evangelical Doctor, St. Anthony’s eloquent preaching, knowledge of Scripture, and compassion for the poor made him one of the most beloved saints in Church history.

The faithful turn to him as the patron of lost things, but also as a powerful intercessor in times of need. Countless miracles of healing, conversions, and answered prayers have been attributed to him. Tuesday devotions, therefore, remind the faithful of the enduring presence of saints in daily life, encouraging prayers not only for lost objects but also for lost faith, lost peace, and lost hope.

The Spiritual Harmony of September 23

The overlap of Padre Pio’s memorial and Anthony’s Tuesday devotion presents the faithful with a unique spiritual harmony. Both saints remind us of the importance of prayer, confession, Eucharistic devotion, and trust in God’s mercy. Padre Pio teaches us to embrace suffering and turn it into a channel of grace, while St. Anthony inspires us with his zeal for the Gospel and compassion for the needy.

Together, they encourage the faithful to live lives of holiness, service, and love for Christ. On this day, Catholics worldwide are reminded that the communion of saints is not a distant theological concept, but a living reality where holy men and women continue to intercede for and inspire the Church.

A Prayer for September 23

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of St. Padre Pio and St. Anthony of Padua. Through their intercession, grant us deeper faith, unwavering hope, and boundless charity. May we, like them, be living witnesses of Your mercy and love in the world. Amen.

✨ September 23 becomes not only a date on the calendar but a reminder of heaven’s nearness — a day when two beloved saints lead us closer to Christ.
