What Jesus wrote in the dust was never about keeping record, it was fulfillment.

(Exodus 31:18) The first time we see God reaching out His finger to write was the time He set the ten commandments in the tablet stones.

(John 8:6) The second time is when a woman was caught in the act of adultery.

The so called religious scholars and the Pharisees dragged the woman into the crowd shaming her for breaking the law that God Himself wrote.

John‬ ‭8‬:‭4‬-5 TPT‬‬ “Then they said to Jesus, “Teacher, we caught this woman in the very act of adultery. Doesn’t Moses’ law command us to stone to death a woman like this? Tell us, what do you say we should do with her?””

What Jesus did in front of the crowd silenced their hypocrisy

Jesus did not answer immediately. Instead, He bent down and wrote in the dust.

What did Jesus write? We don’t know. The major detail is where Jesus wrote.

He wrote in the dust. No longer in stone.

The same finger that wrote and set the ten commandments in the tablet stones is the very same finger that wrote in the dust in front of sinners who defied the very law they accused the woman they came against.

Think about that. They judged the woman before they even gave Jesus the place to judge. They kept the record of the woman caught in adultery, and maybe that was what Jesus wrote in the dust.

Perhaps He recorded every single accuse and wrote it in the dust. In the dust where wind can easily erase what is written and recorded. And maybe that’s why it was never about what Jesus wrote, because what He wrote was already erased before He could even judge.

That is the fulfillment of Jesus. Through Him came grace.

Grace does not erase the law, it erases your charge.

Because the law says you are guilty, but grace says you are free.

The devil’s pattern is defiance, not unbelief

We see his pattern done from the temptation at the garden to the cross

Genesis 3:1 (b) “He deviously asked the woman, “Did God really tell you, ‘You must not eat fruit from any tree of the garden—?’ ”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭3‬‬‬ “The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.””

Matthew 4:6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

The devil did not come after their belief in God, he made them believe in something else.

At the garden, he deceives her into believing that eating the forbidden fruit will make her like God.

During Jesus’ temptation, he deceives Him into believing in Himself.

Notice that the devil did not even ask, “If there is a God…”?

He himself believes there is a God. In fact, his temptations do not come after God’s existence.

If he can get you to believe in something else, there is no more need to come after your faith in God.

The devil believes every word that is in the Bible. Why do we think he is preparing for what is to come? He even believes that whatever God says, it will come to pass. Even the devil is more of a believer. And ironically enough, he is more prepared for his end than any other believer.

If a devout believer like the devil will still go to hell, what makes us think it’s enough to believe?

The devil’s sin is never unbelief, it’s defiance.

Adam and Eve sinned when they defied God’s word. When they believed in something else, thinking they could be like God.

Lucifer fell down the moment he believed in his power more than God’s

But Jesus never defied God’s word. He kept His focus on what God commands. And that is why He never sinned.

So what’s the difference that stands between us and satan?

We have salvation. And that salvation is by grace through faith. That faith is faith in God and no one else. Because the moment you believe in something else, the devil can get you to do what God never called you to. And that is defiance.

Oh to be loved by…

The Servant

To be loved by a Servant-King, who would kneel before me every evening to wash the dust from my feet even though those very same feet spent the whole day running away from Him. He gently takes the heels that stumbled into the dark and bathes them in His grace, patiently cleansing every part until they are fit to walk the narrow path again. Before He redirects, He serves. When I am drowning from my very own sins, He reaches out to me first before He even redirects my faith that failed to face the storm.

The Shepherd

To be loved by a restless Shepherd, who looks at a flock and notices the quiet absence of the one. He does not love us merely as a crowd or a flock; He loves us by name. When I am the one who wanders into the wilderness, He leaves the safety of the hills in pursuit of me through the thicket, refusing to return until I am safely embraced back to His arms.

The Vinedresser

To be loved by the Vinedresser, whose hands are stained with the soil of my soul.

John 15:2 (TPT)
"He cares for the branches connected to me by lifting and propping up the fruitless branches and pruning every fruitful branch to yield a greater harvest."

When I am heavy, barren, and dragging in the dirt, He does not cut me off or cast me aside. He gently reaches down, lifts my fragile branch into the sunlight, and props me up so I can breathe again. He cuts away only what weighs me down, so that I might bloom into what He called me to be.

The Thoughtful God

To be loved by a God who is beautifully, hopelessly captivated by me.

Psalms 139:17-18 (NIV)
"How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you."

They say there are seven quintillion grains of sand scattered across the shores and deserts of the earth. The Creator of the universe is spending a quintillion tender thoughts entirely on me. I may not be a millionaire but I sure am a quintillion worth of thoughts, and that is my riches.

How beautiful it is to be loved by God 🥹
