Life-Giving Water: Manama’s Blessing to Sitio Toruyan

Early morning of February 28, 2026, the residents of Sitio Toruyan, Tamugan, Marilog District, Davao City gathered for a Thanksgiving Ritual led by their tribal chieftain, Datu Manduliman.

With great joy, the community witnessed the first flow of water from their new water system, which now reaches their homes. Before this, families had to walk nearly one kilometer just to fetch water. Now, they happily share that their children no longer need to carry heavy containers because water is already available right in their yards.

The entire community worked together to make this possible—men, women, youth, and even children helped carry sand, hose, and other materials. In just 11 days, the solar-powered water system was completed under the supervision of Errol Limibao, project engineer of Assisi Development Foundation, Inc..

This project was facilitated by the Missionaries of the Assumption (m.a.) and made possible through the funding support of Assisi Development Foundation, Inc., bringing a long-awaited blessing of water to the community. The community has organized a Water System Committee composed of selected responsible members to manage and care for the system.

The Matigsalog community of Toruyan is deeply committed to taking good care of their water system because water, the source of life, is provided by Manama.

Food Relief Mission | February 21–22, 2026

The Missionaries of the Assumption – PAGLAUM Philanthropic Development Office, in partnership with the Community Extension Service of Assumption College of Davao and the Assumption Polytechnic College of Southern Mindanao, conducted a food relief mission in Tago, Surigao del Sur for families affected by flooding following Typhoon Basyang.

A total of 1,108 families received food packs containing rice, canned goods, and drinking water, bringing immediate support to farming communities whose crops and livelihoods were severely affected by the floods.

We express our sincere gratitude to Assisi Development Foundation, Inc. for the grant that made possible the distribution of 1,000 food packs.

We also thank the students, teachers, and community of Assumption College of Davao, as well as the community of Assumption Polytechnic College in Southern Mindanao, whose donations helped prepare additional food packs for affected families. Our special appreciation goes to the volunteer students and teachers of ACD who joined the mission and helped in the distribution of relief goods.

Our deep appreciation also goes to San Agustin Quasi Parish under the leadership of Fr. Raymond Montero-Ambray for preparing the communities, organizing local volunteers, and providing accommodation and meals for the relief team.

This mission reflects the power of solidarity and compassion in bringing hope to communities rebuilding their lives.

On November 15–16, 2025, Pegtanggew 4.0 delivered one sack of ginger seedlings to support the livelihood project of the Parent-Teachers Community Association (PTCA) of Assumption College of Davao Grade School Extension for Lumad Children in Sitio Toruyan, Brgy. Tamugan, Marilog District, Davao City. The ginger seedlings were raised through the campaign “Usa Ka Hiwa sa Luy-a, Usa Ka Binh sa Paglaum” of the Missionaries of the Assumption PAGLAUM Philanthropic Development Office among the students and personnel of Assumption College of Davao (ACD) and Assumption Polytechnic College of Southern Mindanao (APCSM). Our heartfelt gratitude to the administrators, personnel, and all who shared and supported this effort.

PAGLAUM also thanks all the volunteers who, despite the hard walk uphill to reach the community and the muddy, slippery road going down, still chose to serve. Ten college students, one Grade 11 student from ACD, and one former teacher of the Grade School Extension volunteered in the activity. Together with the parents, they helped prepare the land using shovels. The student-volunteers shared that they were very happy to be able to help the Matigsalog parents in their livelihood project.

“Pegtanggew,” a Matigsalog word meaning nurturing, reflects the care for the poor of humanity and the solidarity of these volunteers with our Matigsalog brothers and sisters.
