Pax Tecum: A Reflection for Altar Servers of GKK New Panay
As altar servers of GKK New Panay, we have embraced a sacred responsibility in the Church’s liturgical life. The phrase "Pax Tecum"—“Peace be with you”—is a reminder of the profound spiritual peace that flows from serving at the altar of God. This peace is both a gift and a call, inviting you to live out your ministry with reverence, dedication, and love. Our role as an altar server is not just a task but a vocation—a calling from God to participate actively in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. You stand close to the altar, assisting the priest, and helping ensure the smooth flow of the liturgy. In doing so, you become instruments of grace, allowing the congregation to enter more deeply into the sacred mysteries of the Mass. It is a privilege to serve at the Lord’s table, and with this privilege comes the responsibility to serve with humility and devotion.
Service at the altar requires preparation—not just learning the movements and prayers of the liturgy but also preparing your heart and soul. Prayer is your foundation. Before each Mass, take a moment to pray for guidance, strength, and peace. Ask God to help you serve with a pure heart, free of distractions, and to perform your duties with care and attention. This spiritual readiness will help you connect more deeply to the sacredness of your role.
As altar servers, you are visible witnesses of faith within the GKK New Panay community. People, especially the youth, look up to you as models of dedication and reverence. Serve with joy and focus, showing others what it means to give oneself to God’s work. Your actions, whether small or large, contribute to the holiness of the Eucharistic celebration and inspire others to draw closer to Christ.
Your service also fosters a sense of unity and fraternity. You are part of a team, a brotherhood and sisterhood of servers, working together to glorify God. Support one another, correct each other with kindness.
