SAME ATTITUDE WITH CHRIST
Scripture: Philippians 2:1–11
Introduction:
"Have you ever noticed how easy it is to put yourself first? In our homes, our work, even in our church — we often think: What about me? What do I get? What matters most to me?

But today, the Apostle Paul shows us a different way. He points us to Jesus — the One who had every right to be served, yet chose to serve. The One who was equal with God, yet emptied Himself, humbled Himself, and loved us all the way to the cross.

Paul writes: "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."
This isn't just a good idea — it's the very heart of what it means to follow Him. Let's discover together what it truly means to walk in His humility, unity, and love."

WHAT WE MUST LEARN FROM THIS?

✅ Part 1 — Unity & Humility in the Church (vv. 1–4)

​🤝 Unity Flows From Our Common Life in Christ

Verse 1–2: "Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit… then make my joy complete — be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind."

​Principle: Our unity is not something we create — it's something we already have in Christ. We are called to live out what is already true of us.
​We don't strive for unity — we protect and maintain the unity the Spirit has already given us.

2. 🙏 Humility — Value Others Above Yourself

Verse 3: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves."

​Principle: True humility is not thinking less of yourself — it's thinking of yourself less and lifting others up. It means: their needs matter as much as yours.
​Selfishness divides; humility unites. Pride says "me first" — humility says "you first."

3. 👀 Look Out for One Another — Not Just Yourselves

Verse 4: "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."

​Principle: Love expands our vision — we care about what affects our brothers and sisters, not just what affects us. My life is connected to yours.

✅ Part 2 — Jesus Is Our Ultimate Example (vv. 5–8)

​🕊️ The Mind of Christ — Emptying Yourself for Others

Verse 5: "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus."

​Principle: Jesus is our standard. Every disagreement, every decision, every conflict — ask: "What would Jesus do? How would He respond?"

2. 👑 Jesus — God Who Became a Servant

Verses 6–7: "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant…"

​Principle: True greatness is serving, not being served. Jesus was fully God — yet He chose to serve, to suffer, to love at the greatest cost. He didn't cling to His rights — He laid them down for us.
​Emptying Himself ≠ losing His divinity — but laying aside His privileges to serve and save us.

3. 💡 Obedience Even to the Cross — The Way Down Is the Way Up

Verse 8: "And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!"

​Principle: The path to exaltation goes through humility and obedience. Jesus didn't take shortcuts. He trusted the Father completely — even when it hurt, even when it cost everything.
​The cross = the ultimate act of love, surrender, and humility. God's power is perfected in humble obedience.


✅ Part 3 — The Exaltation of Jesus (vv. 9–11)

​🏆 God Exalts the Humble

Verse 9: "Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name."

​Principle: Jesus humbled Himself → the Father lifted Him up. This is God's unchanging rule: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble" (James 4:6; 1 Pet 5:5).
​You cannot lift yourself up — God lifts up those who bow low.

2. 🌍 Every Knee Will Bow — Jesus Is Lord of All

Verses 10–11: "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

​Principle: Jesus is not just our example — He is our Lord and King. Every person, every nation, every power — one day will acknowledge Him.
​Our response now: bow to Him willingly, in this life, before that Day comes.

3. Care for others' needs, not just your own.

WHAT SATAN CANNOT DO?
The Bible outlines several things that Satan cannot do, emphasizing God's power and sovereignty. Here are some key points, along with related verses:

1. **Satan Cannot Overcome God's Power**: Satan is powerful, but God's power is far greater.
- **1 John 4:4**: "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

2. **Satan Cannot Separate Believers from God's Love**: No power, including Satan, can separate believers from the love of God.
- **Romans 8:38-39**: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons...will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

3. **Satan Cannot Destroy the Church**: Jesus promised that the church will withstand all attacks from Satan.
- **Matthew 16:18**: "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."

4. **Satan Cannot Control Believers**: Those who belong to God are protected, and Satan cannot claim them.
- **1 John 5:18**: "We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them."

5. **Satan Cannot Tempt Beyond Limits**: While Satan can tempt, God limits his power and provides a way out for believers.
- **1 Corinthians 10:13**: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear."

6. **Satan Cannot Prevail Against God's Plan**: Ultimately, God's plan and purposes will prevail, and Satan cannot thwart them.
- **Job 42:2**: "I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted."

7. **Satan Cannot Accuse Successfully**: Satan is known as the accuser, but his accusations cannot stand against believers justified by Christ.
- **Revelation 12:10-11**: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters...has been hurled down."

These verses offer reassurance and hope, highlighting that while Satan may be a formidable adversary, he is ultimately limited by God's sovereignty and the protection given to believers.

What to Do in Times of Darkness and Crisis?

LIFE HAS ITS OWN CYCLE
it has its ups and downs just like a wheel. Life brings seasons of difficulty like loss, uncertainty, fear, or pain that can feel like walking in deep darkness.

The Bible doesn’t promise that as a Christian, we’ll avoid these times, but it gives clear guidance on how to navigate them with faith and hope.

1. Turn to God in Prayer and Supplication

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."-Philippians 4:6

What to do:
Cry out to God honestly—share your fears, doubts, and pain with Him. He is not disturbed by our questions or struggles; He invites us to bring everything to Him. Even in darkness, prayer connects us to the Light of the world.

2. Anchor Yourself in God’s Word
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." — Psalm 119:105

What to do:
In crisis, the Bible becomes our guide and comfort. Meditate on verses that speak to hope, strength, and God’s faithfulness (like Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 23, or Romans 8:28). Let God’s truth replace fear and confusion.

3. Lean on Your Spiritual Community
"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2

What to do:
Don’t isolate yourself. Reach out to fellow believers, pastors, or trusted friends—let them pray for you, listen, and support you. We were not meant to walk through darkness alone.

4. Trust God’s Sovereignty and Good Purpose
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." — Romans 8:28

What to do:
Even when we can’t see the way forward, trust that God is working behind the scenes. He uses even difficult seasons to shape our character, draw us closer to Him, and fulfill His purposes.

5. Choose Hope Over Despair
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
— Romans 15:13

What to do:
Hope isn’t pretending everything is okay—it’s believing God is good and will bring beauty from ashes. Speak hope over your life, declare God’s promises, and look for small signs of His presence and provision.

6. Serve Others When You Can
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." — 1 Peter 4:10

What to do:
Sometimes, shifting our focus from our own pain to helping someone else can bring light into darkness. Even small acts of kindness or service can remind us of our purpose and God’s love working through us.

Summary

In times of darkness and crisis, we are not left to fend for ourselves.

Turn to God in prayer, hold fast to His Word, lean on community, trust His purposes, choose hope, and look for ways to serve.

Remember—Jesus Himself walked through darkness so that we could have light and life, even in the hardest seasons.
