If we are making our careers or backgrounds the standard for Church service, then we are no longer of Christ. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant (Philippians 2:5–7). He showed us that the true measure of ministry is not in credentials, titles, or achievements but in humility, self-awareness and grace.
We must also respect those who labor among us, who are over us in the Lord and admonish us; and esteem them very highly in love because of their work (1 Thessalonians 5:12–13) rather than treat our preachers and leaders as employees, for they are servants of God, not servants of us.
When we lay aside our own standards and return to His heart of servant leadership, our gifts, especially those entrusted to women and men alike, become life-giving and truly transformative for the Church.
May we, as one body, continually examine our hearts, embracing humility over pride and service over status, so that Christ’s character, not our credentials becomes the measure of our ministry.
