Shepherd's Call

Shepherd's Call A broadcasting ministry of Soli Deo Gloria Christian Church, proclaiming the gospel and equipping believers through Christ-exalting, biblical teaching.
(1)

Features the sermons of Bro. Jurem Ramos, Pastor-Teacher of Soli Deo Gloria Christian Church. The SDG Media Ministry had its humble beginnings in 1991 with a 30-minute radio broadcast aired over the radio station DXFE, the AM station of the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) in Davao City. The name of the radio program then was Bread For You, with the Bread of Life – Davao being the programmer.

The name was changed to Shepherd’s Voice when Bread of Life – Davao became Soli Deo Gloria Christian Ministries in July 1996. Its history is an amazing story of the Lord’s blessing and expansion. The positive feedback from listeners led the radio staff to expand the radio mission work in Mindanao and eventually Visayas and Luzon. In partnership with the FEBC, the Shepherd’s Voice program covered the air lanes of Davao, Cotabato, Surigao, and Zamboanga in Mindanao. Its coverage in the Visayas included Bacolod City and Bohol; and in Luzon – Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Zambales, and the Bicol region. The high-paced advancements in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) necessitated an expansion of the broadcast medium to other forms of communication—sermon notes, audio disks, and the Internet—to disseminate the gospel message more effectively and globally. Through the years, the recorded pulpit messages of Pastor Jurem U. Ramos, Senior Pastor of Soli Deo Gloria Church, originally produced cassette tapes for the radio audience. The format underwent constant updating and upgrading to cater to the needs of the listeners and viewers. What started off as a single, half-hour, week-end radio program aired locally became the present Multi-Media Ministry offering several affiliated services, including counseling and conducting of seminars. The rapid advance in communication technology made it possible to reach out to as many audiences as possible even with the limited resources available. In 2011, the name of the radio program was changed to Shepherd’s Call. Since then, the Media Ministry continues to expand covering five cities through the FM band—Davao City, Kidapawan City, and Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental, all through The Edge Radio of the United Christian Broadcasters (UCB); Gen. Santos City, through Kairos Media Management and Services; and Tagum City, through Eagles Ministry Crusade Foundation Philippines, Inc. It also maintained its prime-time programs over the FEBC network in DZAS Karuhatan, DYVS Bacolod, and DXKI Koronadal. In January of 2014, after several years of being based in Juna Subdivision of Davao, the Media Ministry moved to the Soli Deo Gloria Christian Church’s new home near the heart of the city at corner Araullo Extension and Panganiban Streets. All these can only be attributed to the immeasurable grace of God… this is HIStory… Soli Deo Gloria indeed! Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Psalm 115:1

“𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙄𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙨 𝙂𝙤𝙙’𝙨 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 (𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 2)”
— Romans 8:14–17
Sermon delivered by Pastor Jurem Ramos

The heart of Romans 8 is the believer’s assurance of salvation: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — 8:1

This sermon powerfully reminds us that true believers are not merely forgiven sinners — they are adopted children of God. Those who are led by the Holy Spirit demonstrate genuine sonship, not by sinless perfection, but by an ongoing battle against sin and a growing pursuit of holiness.

Pastor Jurem Highlighted:
• Believers are secure because of Christ’s finished work, not their own righteousness.
• The Spirit’s leading is not mystical feelings or extra-biblical revelations, but His sanctifying work leading believers away from sin and toward obedience.
• Scripture does not teach the universal fatherhood of God in salvation. Only those who receive Christ by faith become children of God.
• Christians no longer live as slaves under fear and condemnation, but as adopted children who cry, “Abba! Father!”
• Assurance grows as the Spirit produces repentance, perseverance, obedience, and holiness in the believer’s life.
• Our adoption rests not on changing emotions or human effort, but on God’s unchanging grace and sovereign work.

In last Sunday’s sermon, we heard a very convicting and challenging message unpacked through Romans 8:12–13. Ptr. Jurem Ramos emphasized that the Christian life is not about managing or tolerating sin, but about mortifying it, putting it to death by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ptr. Jurem explained that mortification is not self-harm, legalism, or merely suppressing sinful desires. Rather, it is the believer’s daily and intentional fight against sin by turning away from it and pursuing obedience to Christ.

He reminded the church that believers must first see sin for what it truly is: dangerous, destructive, and offensive before a holy God. Because of this, Christians are called to radically cut off whatever feeds sinful patterns and to respond immediately when temptation arises.

Drawing from Ephesians 4:22–24, Ptr. Jurem highlighted that the Christian life is not only about removing sinful behavior, but also replacing it with righteousness:
• 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵
• 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
• 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲

Ptr. Jurem also carefully clarified that the fight against sin is not legalism. Legalism says, “Fight sin so God will accept you,” but the gospel declares that believers fight sin because they are already accepted in Christ.

“𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙣𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨”—Romans 8:1

The believer’s standing before God rests entirely on the finished work of Christ and not on human effort.

He further emphasized that true mortification can only happen through the Holy Spirit. A genuine believer is moved by the Spirit to resist sin and pursue holiness, while continual unrepentant sin reveals the absence of spiritual life.

The sermon concluded with the comforting truth that the believer’s security is grounded in Christ alone. Because salvation is accomplished by Christ, Christians can confidently pursue holiness knowing that the same Savior who justified them will also sanctify them.
