“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” — 1 John 5:21

Because Scripture doesn’t define idols the way culture does. It doesn’t limit them to physical objects. It exposes the heart.

An idol is anything that replaces Him.

There are signs.
1. You fear losing it more than you fear losing God.
- You say you trust Him.
But when the thought of losing that thing your peace collapses.
Your chest tightens. Your identity shakes.
- And suddenly God isn’t enough.

2. It controls your decisions, even when you know what God said.
- You justify it. You delay obedience.
You negotiate with truth. And you choose it.
- Not because you don’t know. But because you don’t want to let go.

3. Your emotions rise and fall based on it, not on God.
- It’s not just affecting you…
It’s defining you.
And your peace is constantly breaking…

4. You sacrifice for it more than you sacrifice for God.
- You’ll stay up late for it.
Rearrange your life for it.
Protect it at all costs.
- But when it comes to God?
You delay. You give what’s left. Not what’s first.

“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie… and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator.” — Romans 1:25

Keep yourselves from idols!

Ecclesiastes 7:14

Adversity can be our greatest motivation for growth or our deadliest source of discouragement.
The difference lies in our understanding of God’s purpose.

How we respond to adversity determines whether it works for good or evil in our lives.

- God could have kept Daniel out of the lions’ den, but He did not.
- He could have kept Paul and Silas out of jail, but He did not.
- He could have kept the three Hebrew children out of the fiery furnace, but He did not.

Some lessons in life can only be learned during days of adversity and not during days of prosperity.
Faith and courage will surely sustain you in times of adversity.

Be strong and courageous, and face the future with God’s mercy and help.

When God closes doors, it’s time to move forward.

It’s amazing how much clarity you can have when you’re out of options.
When you come to your wits’ end, that is the very place God wants to meet you!

The worst thing that can happen to us is becoming comfortable and no longer desiring greater things from God.

God cannot use you if you remain in your comfort zone.

When you’re desperate and no longer have any hope that a situation will improve, that’s when God will show you His miracle.

Do not be afraid to face new challenges.

He promised us, “I will never leave you nor forsake you, even when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death.”

JOHN 6:5–12
When the boy said, “Here, take it and use it,”
God didn’t expect that boy to have enough to feed the 5,000. He only expected the boy to place it in His hands—and leave the rest up to Him.

> God wants you to place your gifts, energy, and talents in His hands.
He also wants you to place your pain, grief, problems, anxiety, troubles, failures, and anger in His hands as well.
> After you place it all in the hands of God, expect something wonderful.
Expect a miracle!

Just like the feeding of 5,000 men through one little boy.
You just don’t know what God can do with every little thing you place in His hands.
Try it—and you will see!

MARK 2 Story of a paralytic man carried by his four friends to Jesus..
> We all know that our faith can't save someone else for no one is saved by proxy!
> But we can assist in the process by helping our friends come to Christ.
Like the faithful four friends who creatively find a way to get their hurting friend to Christ.
You too can invite your friends and bring them with you to our couples seminar.
> God honors the faith of those who are actively concerned about bringing their friends to Christ.
> We may be surprised at how many of our friends and neighbors, paralyzed from sin and are actually willing to be carried to Jesus Christ.
They're just waiting for you to invite them.
