"AGURS TWO REQUESTS A PRAYER FOR A GOD HONORING LIFE"
PROVERBS 30:7–9 (NKJV)
7 Two things I request of You
(Deprive me not before I die):
8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches— Feed me with the food allotted to me;
9 Lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.

"THE POWER OF INTIMACY IN THE LIFE OF THE PSALMIST"

PSALM 28:1–9 (NKJV)
1 To You I will cry, O LORD my Rock: Do not be silent to me, Lest, if You are silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my supplications
When I cry to You, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary.
3 Do not [a]take me away with the wicked
And with the workers of iniquity, Who speak peace to their neighbors,
But evil is in their hearts.
4 Give them according to their deeds, And according to the wickedness of their endeavors; Give them according to the work of their hands; Render to them what they deserve.
5 Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, Nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them And not build them up.
6 Blessed be the LORD, Because He has heard the voice of my supplications!
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.
8 The LORD is [b]their strength, And He is the saving refuge of His [c]anointed.
9 Save Your people, And bless Your inheritance; Shepherd them also, And bear them up forever.

THEME:
The power of intimacy with God is revealed in the believer's confidence, worship, and victory.

BIG IDEA:
Those who cultivate intimacy with God discover His voice, experience His strength, and live in His victory.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Psalm 28 is a psalm of David written during a time of severe distress. Although we do not know the exact occasion, David was surrounded by enemies and feared that God might remain silent.

The psalm moves from desperate prayer to joyful praise, showing that intimacy with God transforms fear into faith.

"SINCERITY WITHOUT CHRIST IS NOT ENOUGH"

ACTS 10:1–8 (KJV)
1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

THEME:
Good works cannot save us. Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ.

BIG IDEA:
A sincere life without Christ is still a lost life. Only faith in Jesus brings salvation.

INTRODUCTION:
Many people believe that if they are sincere, kind, generous, and religious, God will surely accept them. They think that heaven is earned by doing more good than bad.

Cornelius was exactly that kind of man. If anyone could have been saved by character alone, it was Cornelius. Yet God sent an angel—not to tell him he was already saved—but to tell him to send for Peter, who would preach the gospel to him.

This passage teaches us that good works are evidence of a seeking heart, but they are never the basis of salvation.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Acts 10 marks a turning point in the book of Acts.

For the first time, the gospel officially reaches the Gentiles.

Cornelius was a Roman centurion stationed in Caesarea. Although he was a Gentile, he feared God and worshiped the God of Israel. Yet he still needed to hear about Jesus Christ.
