WHEN IT FEELS LIKE GOD IS HIDING

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Job 13:20-24

Only grant me these two things, God,
and then I will not hide from you:
21 Withdraw your hand far from me,
and stop frightening me with your terrors.
22 Then summon me and I will answer,
or let me speak, and you reply to me.
23 How many wrongs and sins have I committed?
Show me my offense and my sin.
24 Why do you hide your face
and consider me your enemy?

PRAYER
Father God, there are times when You feel distant, and we are tempted to believe that You are hiding from us. Help us not to think this way or allow it to define Your faithfulness. Teach us to trust Your heart even when we do not understand. Give us the courage to be honest before You and bring our questions to You. Help us believe that You are still working in us even when You seem silent. Help us rest in Your promises that You will never leave us nor forsake us.

Reflection Questions:
1. How do you interpret God's silence? Does it mean that He is absent?
2. What evidence from Scripture reminds you that God is faithful even when we cannot sense His presence?
3. Why does God sometimes seem hidden?

NUMBERING OUR DAYS

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Psalms 90:10-12

Our days may come to seventy years,
or eighty, if our strength endures;
yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,
for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
11 If only we knew the power of your anger!
Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.
12 Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

PRAYER
Lord, teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Guide us not to waste the time You have given us. Let our days be lived with purpose, gratitude, and faithfulness. May our words, decisions, and actions bring glory to You. Do not allow us to live our lives forgetting that there will come a day when we will give an account of how we have lived. Thank You, Lord, for the gift of today.

Reflection Questions:
1. How faithful are you in being a good steward of your time each day?
2. Are you investing more time in temporary pursuits than in eternal ones?
3. If you truly believed that your days were numbered, what priorities would change?

THE BABY THAT NEVER GREW UP

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?

PRAYER
Thank You, Lord, for the salvation You have given us. This new life belongs to You. Forgive us when we remain spiritually immature instead of growing in You. Give us a hunger for Your Word and a desire to obey it. Teach us to become more like Jesus each day. Remind us to remove attitudes that hinder our growth and fill us with Your Spirit so that our lives reflect who You are. Keep our hearts longing to know You more deeply and to seek Your presence.

Reflection Questions:
1. Are you growing spiritually, or are you becoming comfortable where you are?
2. Are there attitudes such as jealousy, pride, unforgiveness, or selfishness within you that reveal spiritual immaturity?
3. In what area is God calling you to take the next step toward spiritual maturity?
4. How consistent is your personal devotion? Do you spend time with God daily, weekly, or less often?

GOD’S TOUGH KIND OF LOVE

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Job 5:17-18

“Blessed is the one whom God corrects;
so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.[a]
18 For he wounds, but he also binds up;
he injures, but his hands also heal.

PRAYER
Thank You, Lord, for loving us enough to correct us when we go astray. Help us not to resent Your discipline but to accept it with humility and trust. Sometimes Your correction is painful, but Lord, remind us that Your purpose is always for our good. Thank You that the hands that correct us are also the hands that heal. Mold us to become the people You want us to be.

Reflection Questions:
1. Are you resisting God's correction or submitting to it?
2. How can you trust God's healing when His discipline feels painful?
3. What goes on in your mind when you are hurting because of God's discipline or correction? Do you feel angry, discouraged, or humbled?
4. What does this passage teach you about God's character, and how does it strengthen your confidence in His love?

INTEGRITY IN THE MIDST OF SUFFERING

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Job 2:9-10

9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”
10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[b] woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”

PRAYER
Abba, Father, when suffering comes, we pray that You would hold us firmly to our integrity. Keep our hearts from bitterness and our lips from speaking against You. Help us to remain steadfast in faith and unshakable, even when we do not understand what is happening in our lives. Remind us, Lord, that You are a good and loving Father. Strengthen our faith so that our lives will honor You both in times of blessing and in times of trial.

Reflection Questions:
1. Are you trusting God only when life is good?
2. How can you honor God with your words and attitude during difficult times or seasons?
3. Have you failed God by doubting Him in the midst of suffering? If yes, what did you do?

GOD OF GREAT REVERSALS

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Esther 9:1

On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them.

PRAYER
Lord, You are an amazing God because nothing is impossible for You. When we face impossible situations, You are able to turn them around and bring about Your perfect purposes. Just as You turned the plans of the enemy against Your people into victory, we trust that You are at work in our lives. Help us to trust Your timing, remain faithful in every season, and keep our eyes on You instead of our problems. Strengthen our faith as we wait for Your miracle. What the enemy meant for evil, You can turn around for Your glory.

Reflection Questions:
Is there an area in your life where you need God to bring a reversal?
How much do you trust God's timing, even when you cannot yet see His plan unfolding?
How can you remain faithful while waiting for God to act?

August 8 | SATURDAY

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Esther 4:13-17

13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape.14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
17 So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.

PRAYER
LORD, give us the courage to stand firm in our faith, even when we face great pressure to compromise. Help us to honor Your name above the approval of others. Strengthen our hearts to obey You with humility and confidence. Remind us that You are always working behind the scenes for Your glory and for our good. Help us to trust Your perfect timing and to faithfully fulfill the purpose You have prepared for us.

Reflection Questions:
1. How can you live faithfully "for such a time as this" in your home, church, workplace, or community?
2. Have you ever wished that you had been born in a different time? Why?
3. What fears are keeping you from obeying God today?
4. What does Esther's example teach you about courage and dependence on God?

EXAMPLE IN MORDECAI

SCRIPTURES IN FOCUS: Esther 3:1-5

After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles. 2 All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.
3 Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” 4 Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply. Therefore they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behavior would be tolerated, for he had told them he was a Jew.
5 When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged

PRAYER
Lord, thank You for the example of Mordecai, who remained faithful even when it placed him at great risk. We pray that You will give us the courage to stand firm in our convictions and to honor You above the approval of people. Strengthen us when we face difficulties and when the pressure to compromise our faith is strong. Help us to trust You completely and to live lives that bring glory and honor to Your name.

Reflection Questions:
1. What pressures do you face that tempt you to compromise your obedience to God?
2. How does Mordecai's example encourage you to remain faithful in difficult circumstances?
3. How can you trust God's unseen work when obedience seems costly?
