Two Legends. Two Visionaries. Two Faithful Servants of God.
By Rev. Rolly M. Delgado
This photograph captures two extraordinary men from the humble beginnings of our convention—an era when there was no internet, no social media, and none of the technological advantages we rely on today. Yet, through unwavering faith, sacrificial service, and complete dependence on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they helped build and shape the path that the Convention In Visayas and Mindanao of Southern Baptist Churches continues to walk today.
Among the pioneering leaders who laid the foundation of our work, these two stand as shining examples of dedication, integrity, and servant leadership.
The late Rev. Leo Salazar+++ who faithfully served as President on two separate occasions, was a man of vision whose leadership strengthened and guided the convention through significant seasons of growth and ministry.
The late Mr. Tranquilino Bergante+++ former President of Southern Baptist College, devoted his life to Christian education and leadership development, helping mold future servants who would carry the mission forward.
They belonged to a generation that accomplished much with little, proving that when people are fully surrendered to God's calling, limitations become opportunities for His power to be revealed. The institutions we enjoy today, the ministries that flourish, and the lives that continue to be transformed are part of the legacy they helped establish.
Today, we honor their memory, celebrate their contributions, and thank God for their lives. Their names may belong to history, but their influence continues to live on through every life touched by their ministry.
We stand on the shoulders of giants. May we carry forward the faith, vision, and commitment they so faithfully exemplified.
“Their work was not merely for their generation—it was an investment in generations yet to come."
