“Together with a friend I personally have gone to SEC to inquire about the status of our CBL months ago. The SEC lawyer explained that the 1998 CBL need to be REPEALED and not merely amended. One major change will be the changing of the name of our Convention deleting ‘Visayas.’

Since we are to follow the 1998 CBL, and we are having fresh start I strongly recommend that the members of the Constitutional Committee members CHOOSE FROM AMONG THEMSELVES who will be the chairman, someone who is most knowlegeable and has the expertise in this field, on their first session. LET US END THE ERA OF SOMEONE ALWAYS APPOINTING people in positions. The committee MUST NOT be referred to as a team in the name of any member. I am very sure that Pastor Jimmy Fundar is one who is not so ‘position conscious’ will agree with me (and the many closely monitoring this development).

Three days ago, June 18, 2024, during the Consultative Meeting, held in Mt. Carmel, the Board of Trustees of the CVMSBC, Inc. finally affirmed that the convention must be governed by the 1998 Constitution and By Laws. The BOT Chair, Pastor Andres Docena, Jr., apologized for the BOT's merely continuing what had been practiced for many years by the previous administration. It was decided that the 1998 CBL be immediately implemented in its entirety.

The BOT further declared that a special General Assembly be called to elect the new set of officers of the Convention and that in the meantime, the present BOT members will continue in an INTERIM capacity until the new set of officers be elected. The election will be conducted following the process in accordance the 1998 CBL.

In that same meeting, a committee was formed to study, evaluate and propose needed constitutional amendments to be ratified in a General Assembly as provided for in the 1998 CBL.

There are still so many issues that need to be resolved: Financial transparency and accountability, Baptist Faith and Message controversies, and out there in the field, alleged severe proselyting/harrassment of SB churches by other groups and many more.

As the CBL issue is now resolved, in the spirit of love and forgiveness, may we move forward as Southern Baptist denomination and as children of God, stronger, more committed and dedicated in obeying the Great Commission.
