The Importance and the Covering Under Leadership
God is a God of order, not confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). Because of this, He establishes leadership to guide His people in peace, growth, and unity. Leadership is not about control, but about serving, guiding, and helping others grow in their faith.
1. The Importance of Leadership
A. Leadership Requires a Servant Heart
True leadership is rooted in humility and service. Jesus showed that greatness comes from serving others, not being above them. Leaders care for people, not control them.
B. Leadership is a God-Given Calling
Leadership is not self-appointed—it is given by God. This means leaders carry responsibility and authority that should be respected, as long as it aligns with God’s will.
C. Leadership Influences Others Toward God’s Purpose
Leaders guide people spiritually by teaching, setting examples, and helping others grow. Their role is to build up the church and lead people toward a godly life.
2. Covering Under Leadership
Main Idea (Hebrews 13:17)
Spiritual leaders watch over people and are accountable to God. Following godly leadership brings benefit, peace, and growth.
A. Leaders Watch Over Your Soul
Leaders pray, guide, and help people deal with struggles. They help create an environment where healing and spiritual growth can happen.
B. Receive Guidance and Counsel
Wise leadership provides direction and prevents wrong decisions. Being open to counsel leads to stability and success in life and faith.
C. Leadership Provides Protection
God uses leadership as a form of spiritual covering. Staying under godly leadership helps keep a person aligned with truth and protected from harm.
D. Leadership Brings Discipline and Growth
Correction and teaching are part of leadership. Discipline is meant to strengthen character and help believers mature.
Unity in the Body
Leadership helps maintain unity among believers. When people follow godly leadership, it creates harmony, peace, and a strong, united church.
