The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 had launched today the Aid and Support After Pregnancy (ASAP) in coordination with the Bgy. Health Centers in Bgy. Burol Main and Bgy. San Agustin II. This is one of the featured Life Programs of the Knights of Columbus’ Faith in Action Program.

The fund-drive will run from September 1 until December 15. The council will collect donations from member Knights and Lady Knights of Council 16138 and from other charitable groups and parishioners, either cash or in kind like baby diapers, bottles, wipes, formula milk, clothes and toys.

This is one of the focused projects of Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. he stated in his inaugural speech during the Installation of Officers last August 8.

Coordinating with the Bgy. Health Center in Burol Main is Sis Emelie Alfarero while at Bgy. San Agustin II in Via Verde Village is Sis Evelyn Cruzit, the secretary and the vice-president of the KofC Ladies Auxiliary, respectively.

SLRDC 16138 assists PPCRV

Members of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 joined the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) during the special elections held Saturday, August 29, 2026, for a vacant congressional seat in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. and Past Grand Knight Flavian P. Acupanda, led the brother knights who responded to the call of Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz, to assist the PPCRV volunteers who are mostly parish servants. Fr. Herald, the council’s Worthy Chaplain, is himself a 1st Degree brother knight as well.

GK Noy Magada steered the council’s group for the logistics and food volunteers who are tasked on delivering the meals and other needs of the PPCRV team in three different voting sites. He is supported by SK Rodrigo Leopoldo and Sir Wilbert Patrick Zulueta. PGK Flavs Acupanda, on the other hand, volunteered as poll watchers, together with SK Bryl Joshrein Imutan and Sir Aldwin Amaro. The voting centers are the Burol Elementary School, Ramona S. Tirona Memorial School, and the Emmanuel Resurreccion Congressional Integrated High School.

Meanwhile, some brother knights who are not part of the PPCRV volunteers, shared their valuable time to assist due to the continues heavy rains. Sir Ed Malicsi said that he needs to help on delivering the food because of the bad weather. Others also responded to the call for free rides to the voting centers.

The KofC Auxiliary (Lady Knights) indirectly were involved in this charitable service, though they represented for the other lay organizations. Sis Emelie Alfarero was appointed as the coordinator of the PPCRV volunteers for Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz. Sis Raquel Arana as food committee and Sis Evelyn Cruzit as poll watcher.

Volunteerism is a foundational pillar of the Knights of Columbus, serving as the practical expression of charity, which is the organization's foremost core principle. This is part of the Community Program of Council 16138 under the Faith in Action framework.

BES Happily Received the Books

Mr. Marlowe P. Maurillo, the principal of the Burol Elementary School (BES), was very happy to receive the book donation from San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138.

“We really need books to fill our library, and these books will help our pupils develop their interests in reading,” Maurillo happily said.

Aside from the reference books of science, history, journalism and dictionaries, there were also hard-bound books of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Animorphs and other fictional stories that will attract the young readers to frequently visit the library.

“Some of our graduates still visit the school just to make research works and these books will surely help them,” the principal said.

Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. and Program Director Ferdz Arana represented the Council 16138 in the book donation. Also present were the KofC Ladies Auxiliary president Rina Acupanda, secretary Emelie Alfarero, treasurer Arlene Pastor, and youth counselor Evelyn Funtila.

Council 16138 also discussed with the school principal the other programs that were already launched and may be shared to benefit the school children of Burol Elementary School. These are the Academic Excellence Award, Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest, Model Pupil Award, Scholarship Program, and the KofC Kids.

SLRDC 16138 Book Donation

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 had launched a book drive by collecting old books and other reading materials that are no longer used or read by their children. This will be donated to the Burol Elementary School, a public school in Bgy. Burol Main, City of Dasmariñas.

This is the first project of the KofC Kids, under the care of the Lady Knights of Council 16138. As part of the community outreach under the Faith in Action program, Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., lauded the initiatives of some member Knights and Lady Knights for this book drive.

“With the internet age nowadays, most of the old textbooks, children's books, educational books and even sci-fi books were just kept in shelves and boxes. It is a good idea to donate those to public schools were needy schoolchildren who do not have access to the internet, might as well use them for their school research works,” GK Noy Magada had said.

The donation will be coordinated by Sis Emelie Alfarero, the secretary of the KofC Ladies Auxiliary who happens to be the vice-president of the School Parent-Teacher Association at Burol Elementary School.

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 is giving full support to the welfare of the poor school children, especially to the kids of the faithful departed brother knights through its scholarship program.

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly as a member of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family, and Life. The Vatican announced Kelly’s appointment on Aug. 25.

The dicastery was created by Pope Francis in 2016 to promote, as stated in its statutes, “the apostolate of the lay faithful, the pastoral care of the family and its mission according to God’s plan and for the safeguard and support of human life.” The dicastery is also the Vatican office responsible for organizing the international World Youth Day (WYD).

KofC 16138 Charitable Project

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 is rolling off today their long-stalled fund-raising activity to finance its major projects this Fraternal Year 2026-2027.

Grand Knight Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., highlighted in his acceptance speech during the Installation of Officers last Aug. 8 the five-focused projects to be done during his term.

These are the Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP), the formation of the 4th Degree Honor Guards, Aid and Support After Pregnancy (ASAP), the scholarship program for the KofC Kids, and the construction of their council chamber.

“Marami pong mga proyektong nakalaan para sa Fraternal Year na ito. At sisikapin po nating tuparin ang mga pangakong ito,” GK Noy said in his speech. “Sa dasal at tulong ninyong lahat, itatawid po natin ng maayos ayon sa mga pangarap ni Blessed Michael McGivney,” he also said.

The main draw will be held on February 14, 2027 with a four-wheel E-bike as the major prize. Minor prizes of Valentine’s Day Package consisting of grocery items and consolation prizes will be also at stake.

However, starting September, the council will be raffling off consolation prizes every 3rd Sunday during the council meeting. All monthly winning tickets are still entitled to be entered on the final draw for the E-Bike only.

GK Noy is expecting the council’s 120 member knights currently listed in the roster to give their utmost support to this charitable project. He also tapped through its Family Program the KofC Ladies Auxiliary, the Lady Knights, to give assistance to these activities.

McGivney Award, hit already

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 is again already assured of the Father McGivney Award. This is the first prestigious award from the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus based in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. It honors local councils by recognizing its excellence that meets or exceeds specific membership growth set for the fraternal year.

Through the leadership of Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., the council earned 100% on membership growth against the required quota for this Fraternal Year 2026-2027, on the very first month of his term.

“Ikinagagalak ko pong ibalita sa inyo, na sa unang buwan pa lamang ng ating termino ay nakamit na po natin ang Fr. McGivney Award,” GK Magada said in his acceptance speech during the Installation of Officers last Aug. 8.

Because of the membership growth this fraternal year, Council 16138 is giving citations to the outstanding knights who contributed by recruiting new members into the council. They are SK Allan Valdez, SK Esmer Ruidera, SK Bill Libarnes, Sir Darwin Martin, and Sir Noy Magada. They will receive each a certificate for the Very Important Proposer (VIP) Club Award.

However, newly appointed membership director, Sir Ed Malicsi, had vowed to add more new members on Sept. 12 during the Charity, Unity, Fraternity Exemplification (CUF-E) to be held in Imus, Cavite.

The council required the newly exemplified Worthy Sirs to recruit one each as a requirement for promotion to the Fourth Degree. At the moment, there are already three new candidates to enter the upcoming CUF-E.

The dream is to hit again the Two-Star Council Award which the council gained last Fraternal Year 2023-2024 during the term of Past Grand Knight Allan Z. Valdez.

August 2026 Knight of the Month

Would you know how to spot a true bloodied “kabalyero” in your council? This is the side story on why he was chosen as the Knight of the Month for August 2026.

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Dasmariñas Council 16138 posted an invitation in this page last January 2026 for young men who wants to join the Knights of Columbus. There were a lot of inquiries, but this one caught the page admin’s attention. “How to join?” was a witty message from a certain Wilbert Patrick Zulueta.

Upon learning that he is residing in Imus, Cavite, around 30 kms. away from Dasmariñas, the council politely replied to him to join instead at the Imus council.

But, Patrick reasoned out that he has relatives and friends in Council 16138 and had seen the posts of their remarkable activities. He insisted to join this council. He even brought himself alone to the 1st Degree exemplification held at DLSUD in February 2026 and registered to join the Council 16138.

Last July, he also joined the Charity, Unity, and Fraternity exemplification (CUF-E) and he is now promoted to a 3rd Degree Knight. Seeing his potentials, the council recommended him to attend the Fraternal Leadership Seminar held in Kawit, Cavite. Without hesitation, he right away attended.

“Alam nyo Sir, nagdarasal po ako kay Lord na bigyan ako ng opportunity kasi nawalan ako ng trabaho noong January. When I read on your invitation post to join the Knights of Columbus, I saw it as a sign to join a group and serve Him. That very day a company called and hired me with a better compensation. Ang galing talaga ni Lord. So, I really decided that moment to join the Council 16138,” Sir Patrick shared why he became a true Kabalyero today.

Grand Knight Genovevo T. Magada, Jr. approved the nomination of Sir Wilbert Patrick V. Zulueta as the Knight of the Month for August 2026. He has shown the qualities of a leader and willing to serve the council despite the distance from his home.

The Knight of the Month award is given monthly by the council to encourage its members to be model Catholic servants in the local parish.

A certificate will be given and signed by the current Grand Knight, Sir Genovevo T. Magada, Jr., and their Council Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Herald Mart C. Arenal, the Parish Priest of Parokya ng San Lorenzo Ruiz, City of Dasmariñas, Cavite.
