MOTORCADE OF SEÑOR SAN AGUSTIN

As the Opening Salvo for the First Day of the Novena of Señor San Agustin, the faithful of Sulangon Chapel will bring the image of Señor San Agustin on a solemn motorcade from Sulangon to St. James the Greater Parish Church, Potol, Dapitan City today August 19, 2026.

A HOMEcoming OF FAITH AND HISTORY

One of the meaningful stops of the motorcade will be at St. James the Greater Parish Church, where the original image of St. Augustine will return to the church where he was once venerated.

According to the historical account of Florentino A. Cad in Dapitan Church (St. James Church): Repair, Reconstruction and Improvement from May 25, 1964 to July 29, 1967, on August 19, 1965, the images within the niches of the church's principal retablo were removed during the reconstruction works—including St. Augustine, who occupied the topmost niche of the retablo, directly above the big niche of St. James the Apostle.

After many years, Señor San Agustin returns—not simply as a devotional image, but as a reminder of the living faith, history, and devotion of the people of Dapitan.

“A pilgrimage that honors our past and strengthens our faith.”

Let us welcome Señor San Agustin as he makes his way home to the historic church of Dapitan.

In preparation for the sacred observance of Semana Santa, Sulangon, Saint Augustine Chapel reverently prepares the Altar of Repose, where the Blessed Sacrament will be solemnly transferred after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. This meaningful tradition invites the faithful into a moment of quiet reflection, recalling Christ’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗺 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆: 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗮𝘆

On this blessed Palm Sunday, the faithful of Saint Augustine Chapel, Sulangon gathered in unity and prayer for the solemn blessing of the lukay, led by Rev. Fr. Mario Beltan Patangan. As we commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, the waving of palm fronds reflects our joyful welcome and deep reverence for our Savior.

The lukay, in its simplicity, carries a profound meaning, it symbolizes our faith, our gratitude, and our willingness to welcome Christ into our lives. More than a tradition, it is a sacred reminder of hope, protection, and God’s abiding presence in our homes and hearts.

May this Palm Sunday inspire us to walk humbly with the Lord, to open our hearts with sincerity, and to carry His love beyond the chapel and into our daily lives. As we bring the blessed lukay home, may it remind us that God’s grace continues to guide and protect us through every step of our journey.
