A SYMBOL OF CHRIST'S DIVINE LOVE FOR HUMANITY

The Sacred Heart is one of the most beloved devotions in the Catholic Church because it points us to the Person of Jesus Christ and His infinite love for mankind.

The Church teaches that the Heart of Jesus is a sign and symbol of His love human and divine for the Father and for every person.

❤️ The Heart
The Heart represents the Person of Jesus Christ Himself, who loved humanity "to the end" (John 13:1). It reminds us that Christ's love is personal, sacrificial, and everlasting.

🔥 The Flames
The flames symbolize the burning charity of Christ. His love is living, active, and never ceases. He continually invites sinners to conversion and saints to greater holiness.

✝️ The Cross
The Cross above the Heart reminds us that Christ's love is inseparable from His sacrifice on Calvary. Through His Passion and Death, He redeemed the world.

🌿 The Crown of Thorns
The crown recalls Christ's suffering during His Passion. It also reminds us that many continue to wound His Heart through sin, yet He continues to offer mercy to all who repent.

🩸 The Wound and Blood
The pierced Heart recalls the moment when a soldier opened Christ's side on the Cross (John 19:34). From His side flowed blood and water, understood by the Church Fathers as signs of the Sacraments and the birth of the Church.

🗡️ The Spear
The lance recalls the historical event recorded in the Gospel of St. John when the side of Christ was pierced after His death. This event fulfills Scripture and manifests the total self-giving of Christ.

"Behold this Heart which has loved men so much... and has received in return so much ingratitude. Yet it is nothing but Love and Mercy."

These words are traditionally associated with the revelations received by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, through whom devotion to the Sacred Heart spread throughout the Church.
