The Seven Last Words of JESUS CHRIST reflect forgiveness, mercy, love, suffering, humanity, victory, and surrender.
The Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ are the seven statements spoken by Jesus Christ during His crucifixion, as recorded across the four Gospels. These are often reflected upon, especially during this Good Friday.
Here they are with short reflections:
1. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
— (Luke 23:34)
👉 Message: Forgiveness even in pain
Even while suffering, Jesus showed mercy. This teaches us to forgive others, even when it’s difficult.
2. “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
— (Luke 23:43)
👉 Message: Salvation and grace
Spoken to the repentant thief, this reminds us that it’s never too late to turn to God.
3. “Woman, here is your son… Here is your mother.”
— (John 19:26–27)
👉 Message: Love and responsibility
Jesus entrusted His mother to His disciple, showing care for family even in His final moments.
4. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
— (Matthew 27:46 / Mark 15:34)
👉 Message: Human suffering and anguish
Jesus expressed deep pain and feeling of abandonment—reminding us He understands our struggles.
5. “I am thirsty.”
— (John 19:28)
👉 Message: Humanity of Christ
This shows His physical suffering and reminds us that He fully shared in human experience.
6. “It is finished.”
— (John 19:30)
👉 Message: Mission accomplished
Jesus completed His purpose—bringing salvation to humanity.
7. “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
— (Luke 23:46)
👉 Message: Trust and surrender
His final act was total trust in God—a model for how we should live and die.
