In the summer of 1900, during the violent Boxer Rebellion in China, a 14-year-old girl showed the world what true faith looks like.

St. Anna Wang was born in 1886 in the village of Majiazhuang, Hebei. She lost her mother at a young age but grew up deeply devoted to Christ. When the Boxers attacked her village on July 21, 1900, they rounded up the Christians and gave them a choice: renounce your faith or die.

Anna’s terrified stepmother quickly denied Christ and begged Anna to do the same. But the young girl stood firm.

When ordered to renounce God, Anna boldly declared: “I am a Catholic. I will never deny God. It is better for me to die.”

The Boxers cut off her arm, yet she continued to pray. Lifting her remaining hand toward heaven, she proclaimed:

“The door of heaven is open to all.”

Then, with her last breaths, she whispered:

“Jesus… Jesus… Jesus…”

She was beheaded and thrown into a mass grave.

Today, St. Anna Wang is one of the youngest among the 120 Martyrs of China, canonized by Pope St. John Paul II in 2000. Her story reminds us that courage and holiness are not measured by age — but by love for Christ.

💬 Lord, give us the faith and bravery of little St. Anna Wang, especially when standing up for You feels difficult.

Happy Blessed Birthday to our dear Chairman of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth , Most Rev. Marcelino Antonio M. Maralit Jr., D.D. who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of San Pablo. On this grace-filled day, we thank the Lord for the gift of your life, your shepherd’s heart, and your inspiring leadership of the Catholic youth.

Jesus reminds us in today's Gospel: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33). We thank you for being a constant source of Christ’s peace and courage for the youth, especially in times of uncertainty. Your joyful faith reminds us all to "take heart" and trust in the Lord’s victory.

May the Holy Spirit continue to fill you with wisdom, strength, and good health as you guide the young church. Have a joyful and blessed birthday, Bishop Junie!

St. Isidore the Farmer & St. Maria de la Cabeza
Feast day: May 15 (Isidore) & September 9 (Maria)
Patronage: farmers

Sts. Isidore and Maria were born just outside of Madrid in the early 12th Century, Spain. A poor family, Isidore worked his entire life as a farmer for the wealthy John de Vergas at Torrelaguna, while Maria spent her time cleaning chapels and shrines. Together, they were known for caring for the needy among them.

Constant symbols of the faith, working as the hands and feet of Christ, Isidore was consistently late to work the field as he would go to Mass at the dawn of the day.

These patron saints of farmers performed their labors with humility and patience. They lived a simple life, marked by a deep devotion to the Virgin Mary and a charitable spirit.

They miraculously saved their son, who one day fell in a well with their prayers.
