THROWBACK THURSDAY โ€” OLD TESTAMENT

Series: Noah's Ark (Today is also the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord)

Bible Verse: "I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth." โ€”
Genesis 9:13

Reflection: God kept His promise to Noah even after the flood, showing us that His covenant love never fails, no
matter how dark the storm. Every rainbow is a quiet reminder that God is faithful to His promises across generations.
Today's Feast of the Transfiguration is a beautiful companion reminder that God continues to reveal His glory to those
who trust Him.

Short Prayer: Faithful God, thank You for keeping Your promises even when we fail. Help us trust in Your covenant
love, today and always. Amen.

Saint/Feast Spotlight:
Dedication of the Basilica of St. Mary Major

Brief Life:
This feast celebrates the oldest church in the West dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in Rome in
the 5th century after the Council of Ephesus affirmed Mary as the Mother of God (Theotokos). Tradition holds that
Our Lady herself indicated the site through a miraculous summer snowfall, which is why the feast is also called 'Our
Lady of the Snows.' It stands today as a lasting reminder of the Church's deep devotion to Mary.

Saint's Quote: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord... for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant." โ€”
Our Lady, the Magnificat (Luke 1:46, 48)

Bible Verse: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." โ€” Luke 1:42

Reflection: Mary's 'yes' to God changed the course of history, and her humility continues to point us to her Son, Jesus.
Just as this ancient basilica has stood for centuries as a place of prayer, Mary remains a constant, faithful guide for our
own journey of faith. Let us ask her intercession today, trusting she leads us always closer to Christ.

Mother Mary, help us to say 'yes' to God as you did. Guide us closer to your Son Jesus, and intercede
for us always. Amen.

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time โ€” Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21 (Feeding of the 5,000)

Bible Verse: "Jesus said, 'They need not go away; you give them something to eat.'" โ€” Matthew 14:16

Reflection: In today's Gospel, Jesus takes five loaves and two fish โ€” barely enough for one family โ€” and multiplies
it to feed thousands. He shows us that when we offer Him what little we have, He can do far more than we imagine.
What 'little' are you holding back from God today that He wants to bless and multiply?

Lord Jesus, take the little I have to offer โ€” my time, my talents, my heart โ€” and multiply it for Your
glory. Help me trust that You provide more than enough. Amen.

Jeremiah 26:15
"The Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing."

Words carry weight far beyond what is often realized. A single sentence spoken over someone โ€” whether in blessing or in criticism โ€” can shape the course of a life, plant seeds that take years to grow, or wound a heart in ways that linger for a lifetime. What makes this even more beautiful is the truth that God speaks over each person the same words He spoke over His own Son: "This is My child with whom I am well pleased." It is hard to believe sometimes, especially when sin and mistakes feel too heavy to be overlooked, but that is the very nature of grace โ€” it does not erase the truth of who someone is, it reveals the goodness God placed there from the very beginning. God does not merely tolerate His children; He delights in them, rejoices over them, and looks at them with a Father's proud and joyful gaze. Just as words spoken over a life can shape its destiny, so too can words spoken by a believer shape the lives of others โ€” children, friends, and loved ones. Being a source of blessing rather than criticism, encouragement rather than judgment, is one of the most powerful ways to reflect God's own heart to the world.

Lord, thank You for delighting in me, even when I struggle to believe that You could. Help me to receive Your love not as something I have to earn, but as a gift freely given because of who You made me to be. Bless my lips so that the words I speak build up rather than tear down, encourage rather than discourage, and reflect Your heart to everyone I meet. Use my voice to speak life over my family, my friends, and even strangers who cross my path. Just as You spoke destiny and purpose over me, let me become someone who speaks blessing and hope into the lives of others. Amen.

"But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." โ€” Joshua 24:15

Reflection: Faith is meant to be lived out together โ€” at the dinner table, in small nightly prayers, in how we treat one another at home. When one family member chooses to serve the Lord wholeheartedly, it often becomes the spark that draws the whole household closer to God. This weekend, consider one small way your family can pray or serve together.

Lord, bless our families and friendships. Help us to choose You daily, and let our homes be places where Your love and faith are lived out and shared. Amen.

Matthew 13:58
"And he did not work mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith."

Reflection:
Faith is not just a feeling of hope โ€” it is an active trust that shows up in how life is lived and prepared for. The little girl bringing an umbrella to a prayer gathering for rain captures something profound and beautifully simple about true faith: it does not just believe God can act, it prepares for the moment He does. So often prayers are lifted up for healing, for breakthrough, for miracles โ€” and yet very little is done to actually make room for God to move. Faith is the key that opens the door for God's power to work, not because He is limited, but because He honors the free will and trust of His children. The people in Jesus's hometown missed out on miracles not because God's power had weakened, but because their hearts were closed by familiarity and doubt. Coming to God in prayer means coming with expectant hearts, ready to receive whatever He chooses to do โ€” bringing the umbrella, so to speak, even before the rain falls. True faith prepares the ground for the miracle before the miracle even arrives.

Lord, strengthen my faith so that it is not just words I say, but a trust that shapes how I live and prepare for what You are about to do. Forgive me for the times I have prayed without truly expecting, for asking for miracles while leaving no room for them to happen. Help me to come before You with an open and expectant heart, ready to receive whatever grace, healing, or breakthrough You have planned. Teach me that faith is not passive waiting but active trust, and give me the courage to prepare for the miracles I am praying for. Increase my faith, Lord, so that Your power may move freely in my life. Amen.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." โ€” Matthew 11:28

Reflection: Rest is not a reward we earn โ€” it's an invitation Jesus freely offers to the weary. Taking time to slow down, pray, and breathe is not selfish; it's how we stay spiritually and emotionally healthy enough to love others well. This Friday, give yourself permission to rest in God's presence.

Lord, I come to You tired and burdened. Teach me to rest in Your presence and to trust that it's okay to slow down. Renew my spirit, Lord. Amen.

**Matthew 13:47**
"Again the kingdom of heaven is like a big fishing net let down into the sea, in which every kind of fish has been caught."

The Kingdom of God was never meant to be a small, exclusive circle โ€” it is a big net, wide enough to catch every kind of person, every background, every story, every struggle. "Who am I to judge?" and "The church is a home for everyone, everyone, everyone!" are words that captured the heart of what Jesus actually taught โ€” that love has no boundaries and mercy has no limits. So often, without even realizing it, lines get drawn between who belongs and who does not, who deserves grace and who does not, who is welcome in the pews and who is left standing outside. But the Gospel calls every believer to cast a bigger net โ€” one that reaches the outcast, the doubting, the broken, and the ones society has decided to shun. Being a true follower of Christ means resisting the urge to sort people into categories of worthy and unworthy, and instead recognizing that every single person, without exception, is deeply loved and deeply in need of the same mercy. A life that reflects Christ's love is a life with a wide net โ€” one that welcomes rather than excludes, that embraces rather than judges.

Lord, teach me to love the way You love โ€” without conditions, without boundaries, and without judgment. Show me the places in my heart where I have drawn lines that You never intended, where I have decided who deserves welcome and who does not. Give me the humility to remember that I, too, am a sinner in constant need of Your mercy, no different from anyone else I am tempted to judge. Help me to cast a bigger net in my own life โ€” to welcome, to include, and to love every person You place in my path, especially those the world tends to overlook or push away. Make my heart as wide and as generous as Yours. Amen.

THROWBACK THURSDAY โ€” OLD TESTAMENT

The Story of Creation

Bible Verse: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." โ€” Genesis 1:1

Before anything existed, God spoke โ€” and the world came to be, ordered, purposeful, and good. Every sunrise, every mountain, every person is a sign that we were made on purpose, by a God who called His creation 'very good.' When life feels chaotic, remember that the same God who brought order out of nothing can bring order into our lives today.

Short Prayer: God, thank You for the gift of life and the beauty of Your creation. Help us see ourselves and others as Your masterpiece, made with purpose and love. Amen.

๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ: Martha, Mary, and Lazarus were siblings from Bethany and dear friends of Jesus. Martha welcomed the Lord into her home with generous hospitality, Mary sat at His feet to listen to His teaching, and Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus after four days in the tomb, revealing Christ's power over death. Their home in Bethany was a place of rest, friendship, and deep faith for Jesus throughout His ministry.

Like Martha, we are called to profess our faith boldly even in moments of grief and uncertainty. Like Mary, we are invited to sit quietly and listen to the Lord's voice amid our busy lives. Today, let's ask ourselves: are we making time to truly listen to Jesus the way Mary did?
