WHAT IS HALAL ?
HALAL is from the Arabic terminology which means lawful and/or permissible according to the Holy Qur’an and Hadith, referring to Muslim dietary guidelines. The need for Halal certification is growing leaps & bounds with food products going all over the world, catering to a large Muslim ....
All animals, both land and aquatic are lawful, except: swine, dogs, monkeys, fox, donkeys, cats, tigers, lions, elephants, snakes and some reptiles, carnivorous animals with claws and fangs, birds of prey such as eagles, vultures and other similar birds; pests such as rats, insects, centipedes, scorpions, and other similar animals; animals that live both on water and land like frogs, all poisonous and hazardous aquatic animals except when poison is removed, contaminated animals, and dead animals.
All types of plants and plant products and their derivatives are Halal except those that are poisonous, intoxicating or hazardous to health.
Also unlawful are alcoholic drinks, all forms of intoxicants and hazardous drinks, , hallucinogenic substances, and food additives derived from unlawful sources.
LABELING INSTRUCTIONS
The labeling must include the name of the product, net content expressed in metric system, name and address of the manufacturer, importer or distributor, trademark, list of ingredients, code number identifying date and/or batch number of manufacturer and expiry date, country of origin, and date of slaughter and processing for meat and meat products.
The Halal logo should be marked with the Arabic term. The name of the certifying body should appear together with it.
