On August 15, 2026, we gathered at the Notre Dame Archdiocesan Seminary for Formands Day. โ€œFormandsโ€ are people going through the process of formation to be prepared for their next place of mission. The Juniorate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, together with the Pre-Novice and Novice Brothers, joined the Notre Dame Archdiocesan brothers from Discipleship and PFY for a day of friendship, fun, and brotherhood.

We started by putting all of these things into the hands of God with the Holy Mass. Volleyball and basketball were used to unite the field following Mass, and other people played indoor games. The afternoon was devoted to the Parlor games enjoyed by the seminary, where laughter, excitement and friendly competition reigned.

The day ended with the awarding of the winners and participants. But the extraordinary reward was not the medals or awards, it was the friendship that had been forged and nurtured all the way. Formands Day was a reminder that we are from diverse groups, but on one journey, one mission, and one brotherhood. The different groups, one formation, one family.

In the Gospel of Matthew 16:13โ€“20, when Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples: โ€œWho do you say that I am?โ€ This question is not only for Peter and the disciples, but also for each of us today. It challenges us to examine our own faith and ask ourselves who Jesus truly is in our lives. It is easy to say that Jesus is the Son of God, but our actions must also show that we truly believe him.

Before Peter spoke, the disciples' answers and shared what others were saying, some answers He was John the Baptizer, others Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. But when Jesus asked them again, Peter answered, โ€œYou are the Messiah, the son of the living god.โ€ Jesus replied, โ€œBlessed are you, Simon barjona! For this was not revealed to you by human beings, but by my Father in heaven.โ€ Because of Peter's sincere faith, Jesus entrusted Peter with the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. For me, these keys stand for trust, responsibility, forgiveness, and serving others. It reminds us that knowing Christ is not just a gift we receive, it also comes with the duty to help others closer to God.

This Gospel also reminds us in our responsibility, and teaches us the beautiful meaning of forgiveness and helping others. Jesus gives us the freedom to be set free from our sins, failures, and weaknesses. Sometimes we keep holding on to our past mistakes and worry that God is disappointed with us. But God never closes His door against us. He always welcomes us, forgives us, and gives us a fresh start and to become the best version of our lives.

I have also learned how important unity and belonging as one community. God does not want us to live selfishly or keep to ourselves alone. We are called to forgive one another, help each other grow, and build bonds rooted in love. Even those who seem different from us can truly become brothers and sisters when we let God bring us together.

As a seminarian and a Christian, this Gospel reminds me that my faith must be seen clearly in how I treat everyone I meet. I am called to show Godโ€™s mercy, especially to those who are struggling or feel they have failed. I should never be the one to shut doors against others, but instead help open the path to hope, forgiveness, and Godโ€™s loving presence.

Above all, this Gospel assures me that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God and He calls us to be instruments of His love. Our responsibility is to always keep the door of my heart open: to forgive freely, serve humbly, live in unity, and guide others closer to Christ. Amen

"Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Today' s Gospel talks about a Canaanite woman who approached Jesus becuase her daughter was suffering. At first, Jesus did not answer her and even when she continued asking for help, she experienced words that seemed to reject her. Despite all of that, the woman never give up. She remained humble and continued to trust in Jesus. Through her faith, Jesus healed her daugther.

This Gospel reminds us that through perseverance and faith in the Lord, He will never leave us in times of difficulties in life. There are times in our lives that when we pray, we feel that God seems to be silent. When this happens, we often become discourage and even doubtful because our prayers are not answered in the way or at the time we are expecting it to be answered. The Canaanite woman teaches us not to give up easily in our prayers and faith. Faith means continuing to trust God even when His answer seems delayed or difficult to understand.

As we continue our journey in life, may we have this kind of faith. Throughout the journey we will always be experiencing challenges, doubts, disappointments and moments when we feel that our efforts are not producing results. But just like the Canaanite woman, we are called to remain humble, persistent and have a strong trust in God. Amen.

On August 8, 2026, the seminarians of the Junior Oblates of Mary Immaculate (JOMI) and Notre Dame Archdiocesan Seminary (NDAS) came together for the Harmony for Humanity fundraising concert sponsored by the SERRA Club of Cotabato. Through weeks of dedicated practice and preparation, we shared the talents God has blessed us with through different genres of songs, musical performances, and dance choreographies. All performances demonstrated our hard work, teamwork and the joy of sharing our gifts with others.

The concert also featured the performances of some of the bands and musicians from the SERRA Club of Cotabato, who shared their music and talents with the audience. More than a fundraising event, it became an opportunity to strengthen our bonds, celebrate our God-given gifts, and serve a meaningful cause through music and fellowship.

We would like to thank all those who supported and witnessed this memorable night with the SERRA club of Cotabato.

Celebrate the birthday of St. Eugene de Mazenod, the Founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), August 1st. Saint Eugene was born in 1782 in Aix-en-Provence, France, and his whole life was one of devotion to Christ and to the poor and the abandoned. His missionary spirit, great affection for the Church and the desire to create missionaries continue to be an inspiration for the Oblate family and those who continue to walk his religious path.

The JOMI seminarians came together in thanksgiving and fraternity to celebrate his birthday. We started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in honour of our dear founder.

On the following day, the celebration continued with a lively Cook Fest, where each JOMI group prepared food and shared in a joyful boodle fight over lunch. In the evening, we gathered once again for a special program during dinner, featuring meaningful messages/trivias from the formators about St. Eugene.

These moments were moments of celebrating more than anything, moments to remember his legacy, deepen our identity, and renew our commitment to the missionary spirit he left with the Oblate family.

True freedom begins when every burden is entrusted to God. Thus, the one-day recollection of the Juniorate Oblates of Mary Immaculate, held on August 1, 2026, became a sacred invitation to embrace the theme, "Let Go with God."

Throughout the recollection, moments of prayer, silence, reflection, and spiritual renewal served as gentle reminders that surrender is not the absence of strength but the presence of faith. Moreover, by letting go of fear, doubt, and every unnecessary weight, hearts become more open to God's transforming grace and ever-faithful guidance.

Indeed, every season of formation calls for deeper trust in the Lord. Consequently, each moment of surrender becomes a step toward spiritual growth, every prayer strengthens the vocation entrusted by God, and every encounter with His presence renews the commitment to follow Christ with humility and hope. May the fruits of this recollection continue to inspire lives rooted in faith, sustained by grace, and guided by the unwavering love of God.

"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." โ€” 1 Peter 5:7
