Wednesday devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help

𝑵𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝒕𝒐 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒑 🌹

Mother of Perpetual Help, look on us your children. We are proud to be your children and happy to call you our mother. You are always ready to accept us as we are, to encourage us to do better, in spite of temptations and weaknesses. As we look at your picture, we remember your life on earth. You had many crosses and trials but you knew how to face them. You had faith and trust in God. You relied on his loving, fatherly goodness. Help us to be like you. We too have our trials and troubles. We are often worried and confused. Give us courage, give us faith. Help us to make one more effort when we are inclined to despair.

As you stood at the foot of the cross you found it hard to see how God could allow His Son to suffer such agony and yet you never lost faith. Help us to learn from your example to face our trials with confidence and trust in God. Sometimes loving mother, we are so worried about our own problems we forget about God and the needs of others. We want to be like you. You forgot about yourself and your own problems when you saw others in need. Help us to remember that the troubles and sorrows of others are sometimes greater than our own.

So, Mother Mary, while we pray with you for our own special intentions, we include those all of your children in need: the sick and the dying, the lonely and the broken hearted, the poor and the oppressed, in a world, all who need your perpetual help. Amen.

Lord God, it is Your will that we come together today to honor Mary as a mother, ever ready to help us. May we who implore her motherly help, benefit by the great gift of salvation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thanksgiving Prayer

O Mother of Perpetual Help with grateful hearts we join you in thanking God for all the wonderful things He has done for us. O God our Creator, we thank you for the gift of life and all the gift of nature: our senses and faculties, our talents and abilities. We thank you for creating us in Your image and likeness and for giving us this earth to use and develop, to respect and cherish. Despite our failures you continue to show your love for us today by increasing the life of your Spirit in us at the Eucharistic table. Finally, we thank you loving Father for giving us Mary, the Mother of your Son, to be our Mother of Perpetual Help. We are grateful for all the favors we have received through her intercession. We pray that those past favors may inspire us to greater confidence in your loving mercy and to seek the aid of our Mother of Perpetual Help. Amen.

𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 : The 𝑄𝑢𝑒𝑒𝑛𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐵𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑉𝑖𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑛 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑦, celebrated by the Catholic Church on August 22, honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as 𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉. Her queenship flows from her unique participation in the life and mission of her Son, Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe.

𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝑄𝑢𝑒𝑒𝑛 not because she seeks earthly power, but because she is the humble Mother of Christ and, in Him, the spiritual mother of all the faithful. At the Annunciation, she freely accepted God’s will; at the foot of the Cross, she remained united with her Son in His suffering; and in glory, she continues to intercede for the Church and for all her children.

The Queenship of Mary therefore invites us to approach her with confidence and love. As our Queen and Mother, she leads us always to Christ, her Son and our Savior. Her life teaches us that true greatness is found not in power or privilege, but in humble obedience, faithful service, and complete trust in God.

He made me walk among the bones in every direction so that I saw how many they were on the surface of the plain. How dry they were! He asked me: Son of man, can these bones come to life? I answered, “Lord GOD, you alone know that.” Then he said to me: Prophesy over these bones, and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!

Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: See! I will bring spirit into you, that you may come to life. I will put sinews upon you, make flesh grow over you, cover you with skin, and put spirit in you so that you may come to life and know that I am the LORD. I prophesied as I had been told, and even as I was prophesying I heard a noise; it was a rattling as the bones came together, bone joining bone. I saw the sinews and the flesh come upon them, and the skin cover them, but there was no spirit in them.

Gospel : Matthew 22:34-40

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”

He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Reading 1 : Ezekiel 36:23-28

Thus says the LORD: I will prove the holiness of my great name, profaned among the nations, in whose midst you have profaned it. Thus the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD, when in their sight I prove my holiness through you. For I will take you away from among the nations, gather you from all the foreign lands, and bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees. You shall live in the land I gave your ancestors; you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. Cast me not out from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me.

Gospel : Matthew 22:1-14

Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and the elders of the people in parables saying, “The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast.”’ Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

Then the king said to his servants, ‘The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.’ The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. He said to him, ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?’

But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’ Many are invited, but few are chosen.”
